Overview:

The Project Manager bears the full responsibility to oversee that the construction is performed according to specification, in the most efficient manner according to schedule and under budget.For this to happen the Project Manager is expected, among other things, to follow allproject relatedprocedures and of most importance, company policy.Toaccomplishthese expectations the following procedures and guidelines have beenestablishedto facilitate the process.

MasTec's Clean Energy and Infrastructure Group (CE&I) is a $4 billion annual revenue business unit that provides construction services for industrial facilities; building products manufacturers, power generation facilities, manufacturing plants; solar, wind, and thermal energy plants; buildings, and infrastructure.

Responsibilities:
  • Planning andScheduling: Makea thorough study of the project to be performed.Discuss your plans, schedules, and details. Problems etc. with your Division Personnel and your Management team.Assesyour needs fully including personnel, equipment, materials, etc. and thetime framefeasiblefor performance.Determineyour best course of action and continue planning throughout the project for possible improvements.As part of the planning phase the following items are the responsibility of the Project Manager: Field Office Site Plan, Trailers, Permits and Fees,EstablishingUtilities, Employee Parking, Temp. Roads, Lay Down Areas, Tool Cribs, Insurance&Bonds, Safety&First Aid.
  • Project Coordination: TheProject Manager is the Company's top representativeatthe project.Thus, the Project Manager shall attend all progress meetings with the Owner/Engineer and ensure that all required documents aresubmittedto the Owner ina timelymanner.The Project Manager should conduct internal scheduling meetings with the Superintendents, Foremen and Subcontractors on a regular basisin order toproperly coordinate work areas, labor, equipment,materialand survey needs.In addition, it is expected that Pre-Activity Meetings be conducted prior to significant items of work (ie. Asphalt, concrete deck placements, girder/beam erection, traffic shifts, etc.) to discuss the responsibilities, means&methods (equipment, labor, etc.), MOT requirements, safety aspect, quality control requirements, etc.
  • Personnel Selection: TheMain Office and HR Department will assist you in selecting key members of your management team. Personnelselectionfor all other project level employees will be your responsibility.The Project Manager should coordinate theprojectsstaffing needs with the Human Resources Department. As the head of the field office, the Project Manager is responsibletoensure thatthat the company policies are enforced.
  • The Project Manager is responsible for the supervision of the Project Engineer and other engineer staff.The Project Manager should coordinate with the Project Engineer thehiring of outside SpecialtyEngineers for items of work that require highly technical analysis.As part of the management of the engineering staff, the Project Manager should serve as a mentor to young engineers assigned to the project.
  • ContractDocuments:Familiarize yourself with your contract, specifications, plans, addendums, revisions, special provisions, permits, utility relocation schedules, etc. Knowwhat isrequiredfor each item of work and how you get paid for the same.Be aware of any situation that entitles you to extra pay orwarrantsdocumentation for the initiation of apossible claim.
  • ProjectManager must review and approve all invoices, subcontractor payments and timesheets prior to processing at the Main Office.Study each cost report in detail and note all variances in costs from estimates.
  • Cost Control: TheProject Manageris responsible forthe project's budget anddiscusswith the Estimator all variances noted.The Project Manager shall understand the pay item estimate work sheets and communicate the information to the supervisors.Evaluate the cost effectiveness of the procedures in place and replace all those that are deemed ineffective.Take all necessary measures to avoid unplanned occurrences that mighty increase cost, such as accidents and injuries, equipment abuse,etc.Ensure that change orders and/or claims are properly documented,preparedandsubmittedto the Owner ina timelymanner.Review and approve all budget changes and cost transfers.The Project Manager shall provide a monthly Project Status Report toaccompanythe monthly cost report.The Project Manager shall ensure that the monthly cost reports are reflective of the actual field performance.Cost reports shall haveaccuratequantities and projections.
  • Subcontractor/ Vendor Management:The Project Manageris responsible forthe negotiations of subcontractors and vendors.Ensure that all subcontractors and vendors are paid in a timely manner in accordance with subcontract requirements and internal company procedures.Manage the subcontractor and vendor claims, change orders and disputes.
  • Documentation: Proper documentation is essential for the benefit of the Project and the Company.Ensure that all project team members (Superintendents, Engineers, Subcontractors) aresubmittingtheir requireddocumentations(ie. Daily reports, accident reports, T&M Sheets, etc.).The Project Manager shall keep a detailed daily Diary of the project.Ensure that project photos and meeting minutesare beingtaken and filed accordingly.The Project Manager shall notify the client should a project record (iemeeting minutes)areinaccurate and/or incomplete.
  • Public Relations: TheProject Manager is our top official on any project and therefore handles most negotiations, at least in the preliminary stages.Your integrity and performance of these duties reflect on our entirecompany,therefore, you are expected to conduct yourself in an honest, congenial, businesslike manner whereby your actions would be respected by your peers and the general business community.
  • Safety: TheProject Manager shall ensure that the projectis in compliance withthe company and OSHA safety regulations. He/she should be knowledgeable of O.S.H.A. regulations and company safety policies andmonitorand enforce the same.The Project Manager shall communicate and interface with the Company's Safety Manager as required to ensure that the projectis in compliance withthe safety policies.
  • This position is the top project level management position with Mastec Civiland demands a broad spectrum of capabilities, especially leadership, common sense, training, loyalty, patience, and ability to work with others.A good Project Manager should fit the image described above and follow all procedures and policies required by Mastec Civil.
Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree inCivil Engineering or ConstructionManagement
  • Minimumfiveyears' experience in the heavy construction industry. Must have bridge, roadwork, and DOT experience.
  • PMP Certification preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • A demonstrated understanding of construction means, and methods associated with the heavy construction industry
  • Strong teamleadership project management skills.
  • Experience in leading multi-disciplined teams.
  • Ability to direct the work of subcontractorsin order toachieve project goals.
  • Computer knowledgemusts:Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook, Project scheduling - P-3 at minimum.
  • Ability tomaintainonsite project documentation.
