Project Manager, Rare Disease Translational CenterThe Rare Disease Translational Center (RDTC) Project Manager will have a solid background of theoretical and practical knowledge in the biological sciences to understand the project scopes of the RDTC team. This role will be responsible for workingwith the study director and collaborators to define project scope, goals and deliverables and for overall project coordination, execution and completion. This position requires an in-depth understanding of operations and service deliverables, available resources for study execution, excellent communication skills, and proficiency with available project tracking and communication tools. This position is the key responsible party to ensure that the project is on track and that internal resources are used responsibly. It works with the operation on a daily basis.The Rare Disease Translational Center supports the overall mission of The Jackson Laboratory: To discover precise genomic solution for disease and empower the global biomedical community in the shared quest to improve human health. The RDTC works directly with foundations and their associated teams of basic and clinical researchers to generate custom mouse models with clinical mutations to treat and cure rare disease. This position is an exciting opportunity to work directly with the Center in supporting this mission.The Project Manager works mostly independently in the execution of core responsibilities, and may require assistance from the Study Director to help resolve the most challenging problems. This position requires knowledge of and expertise in inter-departmental functions and processes allowing the PM to define project scope, goals and deliverables for complex projects. The PM oversees the project and recognizes when the project may be going off track in the operation from the promised deliverable. The incumbent is responsible for establishing/monitoring performance measures and implementing actions to help meet the overall goals of the RDTC.Key Responsibilities:* Project Management including coordination and tracking progress on the project, updating all required databases as needed and anticipates possible problems and corrections needed to complete the research* Involved in project initiation and development, including drafting IACUC protocol amendments, providing and complying with accurate timelines, securing experimental supplies/resourcesRequirements:* Knowledge that would typically be obtained through the completion of an advanced degree (Master's) in the sciences preferred or >5 years of direct experience managing projects in a scientific/research environment with a Bachelor's degree* Proficiency with a variety of software tools including MS Office software, laboratory information management databases, collaboration software such as or Sharepoint; experience using programs like Biorender or LIMs systems a plus* Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are required: successful applicants establish consistent effective two-way communication with department managers and supervisors regarding project needs & deadlines and follow up with these people in a timely manner as required to ensure project success; able to effectively communicate and negotiate with internal and external collaborators/colleagues to meet project goals and ensure project completion* Knowledge of college level Mendelian genetics that can be obtained through a genetics course at an accredited college or university or through successful completion of the Jackson Laboratory genetics course, Beyond Basic Genetics * Proven ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve desired business results with examples in leadership and experience in managing a plus* Positive attitude and professional manner in all interactions; demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development* Demonstrated ability to support staff to thrive on change and keep pace with a fast paced, dynamic work environment which is externally focusedPay Range: $68,344 - $109,350 pay rate is based upon experienceAbout JAX:The Jackson Laboratory is an independent, nonprofit biomedical research institution with a National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center and nearly 3,000 employees in locations across the United States (Maine, Connecticut, California), Japan and China.
