The ideal candidate should be interested in providing consulting, inspection, and testing services to clients related to repair, alterations, and renovations of existing structures. As part of the SK&A family, you will work closely with our project engineers, other project managers, the Director of Testing and Inspections, Principals, and other key team members - owner/owner's rep, contractors, etc. - to deliver sound, innovative, and cost-effect design and repair solutions ensuring all work is done with the utmost quality and attention to detail.Primary Responsibilities:Repair & Restoration Project Manager responsibilities include:Technical Responsibilities:
  • Possess and maintain advanced knowledge of repair materials, methods and repair techniques including keeping updated knowledge of industry guidelines, codes, available products, etc.
  • Maintain or obtain Professional Engineer license.
  • Continues to develop specialized skills for particular project types such as waterproofing consulting, roofing, masonry, etc. as needed to enhance the skill set/meet the needs of the firm, and to pursue areas of specific interest for the engineer.
  • Takes active role in providing input regarding quality control for the Repair & Restoration Division and assists with updating group standards.
Managerial Responsibilities:
  • Initially, Project Manager will need to be trained in SK&A project management and operation procedures including but not limited to project setup, timesheets, invoicing, file storage procedures, report processing, etc.
  • Provides proactive leadership of project team, scheduling and team communication.
  • For assigned projects, responsibilities include:
o Preparation of project setup sheet. o Handle projects from origination including initial review of project with client, proposal development, project start up and assignment of tasks to other staff. o Develop fee proposal with Principal input/review, and additional service requests for assigned projects. o Manage condition survey, project specification development and drawing development efforts including providing guidance and direction to the engineers working on the project, tracking costs, problem solving for complicated issues and communication with the client. o Attend and run, as needed, pre-construction and progress meetings for construction phases and write or review meeting minutes. o Review documentation for projects to ensure compliance with firm's standards and QA performance measures o Monitor project budgets and make necessary adjustments in workflow to ensure profitability. o Understand the scope of their projects, and the firm's expected deliverables. Identify items outside of scope and address appropriately with the client. o Supervise staff performing work on assigned projects. o Develop manpower needs and staffing plan to complete projects, in the context of the larger organization's resources and available project budget. o Review SK&A invoices for their projects and assist with A/R tracking of invoice payments and associated follow-up with clients. o Mentor Assistant PMs assigned to their projects on project financial reports and interaction with clients and other team members.Professional and Business Development Activities:
  • Possesses advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Attends and assists with organizing technical webinars and presentations (both in-house and external with clients).
  • Become active member in industry organizations of specific interest to the engineer and firm such as ICRI, IIBEC, ACI, etc.
  • Develops long-term relationships with clients and becomes the contact person and face of SK&A for that client. Takes active role in business development with their client base and growing project volume with these clients.
RequirementsRequirements/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science with concentration in Structural and/or Civil Engineering with a Master of Science being a plus.
  • 5 to 10 years of past work experience in the structural engineering and/or building restoration field with expertise in waterproofing and/or building enclosure consulting being a major plus. At least 1-2 years of project management experience also a plus.
  • Must be physically able to perform field inspections in a variety of property types, construction sites, and sometimes in challenging conditions/locations. This position will sometimes require the ability to lift ladders, carry hoses and other heavy equipment.
  • With proper oversight and equipment provided, Repair & Restoration staff will climb and move around on roofs, ride swing stages or lifts for faade and building enclosure work, access attics and crawlspaces, and access the personal residences or offices of a wide variety of individual building occupants.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
