Job Description:
Description Your role at GEI. The Grade 5 Project Manager - Tunnels and Geotech role (Denver, Colorado) is a mid-level position suited for furthering experience in the field of practice (geotechnical, geological, and tunnel/trenchless design), learning the fundamentals of management for engineering projects, honing professional communication and collaboration protocols, while implementing tasks with moderate supervisor mentorship and colleague support. Essential Responsibilities & Duties
  • Manage tunnel, trenchless, geotechnical, geological, and geo-structural projects (consulting engineer project values from $30k - $1M) in Colorado, Utah and surrounding states. Includes but is not limited to developing proposals and managing project scope, fee, schedules, and invoices.
  • Perform, arrange, and review geotechnical and structural design calculations using hand calculations, GeoStudio, RocScience, and finite element modeling software as appropriate to the project.
  • Direct and mentor staff in conducting data collection and analysis to support geotechnical, geological, tunnel/trenchless, and geo-structural designs, including geotechnical investigations with typical tasks that include subsurface investigations, well construction, field mapping, geophysics, permitting, and other field work.
  • Direct and mentor staff in creating design and construction drawings using AutoCAD and/or GIS software as appropriate.
  • Direct and self-perform preparation of technical reports including but not limited to technical memorandums, specifications, geotechnical investigation reports, tunnel feasibility reports, geotechnical data reports, geotechnical baseline reports, construction cost estimates, basis of design reports, etc.
  • Develop related business sectors, including but not limited to participation in conferences and professional groups related to geotechnical, tunnel, trenchless, geo-structural, and geologic engineering as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications Item Minimum Preferred Education (degree) BS - Geology, Geological Engineering, Civil - Geotech, or related MS Relevant Experience (years) 6 8 Accreditation Professional Engineer (PE), Geologist (PG), or ability to acquire upon hire Software Skills Microsoft Office suite PDF printing and editing AutoCAD Minimum plus AutoCAD, GeoStudio or Rock Science software suites, MathCAD, FEM or related software.   • Strong attention to detail with excellent collaboration skills, organizational tactics, analytical, judgment and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Have reliable transportation to access job sites and a valid driver's license in good standing
Working Conditions
  • Field tasks will be performed in all reasonable working conditions:
    • Temperatures 0 - 100 degrees Fahrenheit
    • Winds < 60 mph
    • Clear to wet
    • Lifting loads up to 50+ pounds may be required several times per day (i.e. lifting supplies/samples in and out of company trucks)
    • Tasks may require occasional travel on steep/uneven terrain and in confined spaces for durations up to 10 hours per day.
    • With prior communication, tasks may require rare non-standard business hours/working days such as night or weekend shifts.
  • Office tasks will be performed in individual cubicle/office spaces with communal areas.
    • Remote work (2 days per week) is available pending weekly job duties.
