What you will do for Harris County Precinct 4 (HCP4)

Harris County Precinct 4 has an exciting opportunity for a Project Specialist. The Project Specialist will be an integral member of the Parks Special Project team and responsible for maintaining the appearance and safety of Precinct 4 facilities. Applicants should be willing to work both indoors and outdoors, not be afraid to get their hands dirty, yet be able to conduct a variety of activities during a normal day. The applicant must follow the supervisor's instructions and understand park rules and regulations. Personal conduct should always be courteous and professional when dealing with the public, including the interpretation of approved policies.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.

* Operate a variety of small engine machinery.

* Must have experience or be willing to learn the operation of large equipment such as tractors and backhoes.

* Mow grass, trim, weed, cut, and edge around walkways, flowerbeds, and walls.

* Prune or remove shrubs and trees of deadfall.

* Clean grounds and provide litter control of trash, leaves, and pine needles.

* Clean restrooms and empty trash receptacles.

* Operate blowers and pressure washing equipment to remove dirt and debris from trails and structures.

* Landscape work that includes planting grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs, weeding flowerbeds, and assisting in the installation or maintenance of irrigation systems.

* Load and unload equipment from vehicles and transport to various locations.

* Repair fences, gates, bleachers, walls, and walkways.

* Paint various structures; the interior and exterior of buildings, offices, pavilions, and parking lots.

* Assist the skilled trade's staff with maintenance and construction projects such as welding, concrete and asphalt work, roofing, cabinetry, installing A/C - heating systems, plumbing, etc.

* Assist field crews and various volunteer labor forces for daily maintenance operations, while performing a list of project priorities as prescribed by the Operations Division.

* Completes setup and breakdown of events involving tents, tables, chairs and other special items.

* Know and experience audio and visual equipment.

* Work schedule may require the applicant to work evening and weekends depending on events scheduled.

* May require working before, during, or after an emergency or disaster at the department's discretion.

Requirements

Education:

* High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent

OR

* Minimum of one (1) year of related experience and/or training in operating machinery, landscaping, grounds maintenance, basic construction and repair, event setup, or audio-visual equipment.

Licensure:

* Texas driver's license and maintain a good driving record

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Proficient in operating and maintaining small and large engine machinery, including tractors and backhoes, with experience in transporting equipment safely.

* Skilled in grounds and landscape maintenance, including mowing, trimming, weeding, pruning, and performing general grounds cleaning.

* Proficiency in setting up and breaking down events, cleaning facilities, and operating blowers and pressure washing equipment.

* Competent in repairing structures, painting, and assisting with maintenance and construction projects such as welding, roofing, and plumbing.

* Proven ability to collaborate with teams for maintenance operations, flexible with work schedules, and experienced in using audio and visual equipment for events.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit, talk, or hear, and taste or smell.

* The employee must regularly lift and/ or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/ or move heavier objects. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

* While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works outside in all weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/ or humid conditions and airborne particles.

* The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
