Department Summary The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) at HSC is dedicated to supporting the research of our faculty, staff, and students. Our office provides comprehensive services across the lifecycle of sponsored projects. We are committed to ensuring compliance with institutional and sponsor requirements, fostering collaborative research partnerships, and promoting the responsible stewardship of external funding. As a crucial component of UNT's research infrastructure, OSP strives to enhance the impact and visibility of our institution's research portfolio, contributing to the advancement of knowledge and innovation. Our team of experienced professionals works collaboratively with academic departments, administrative units, and external sponsors to facilitate a seamless and efficient grants and contracts process, supporting our research community. Position Overview The University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking to hire a Project Support Specialist to join our team. This position provides direct professional support and guidance in the administration of grants, contracts and related funds to faculty and staff in an assigned portfolio of departments. This position provides high levels of client satisfaction through strong relationship management efforts. Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and four (4) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Up to date knowledge of applicable law, and federal and state grant guidelines, including but not limited to FARS, DFARS, 2 CFR 200, and Uniform Guidance Standards.
  • Must understand and respect the need for structured guidelines and protocols but is willing to ask for clarification if something doesn't make sense and could cause unnecessary problems for a co-worker, the organization or could result in less than an excellent level of service for a customer, very attentive to details, asks questions to accurately document information, updates records, and shows concern for every aspect of the job.
  • Excellent communication and follow up.

Job Duties:
  • Assist Principal Investigators and department staff in the management of sponsored projects, including but not limited to regular account review, expenditure planning, time and effort planning, interpretation of sponsor terms and conditions, and University policies and procedures
  • Ensure that award oversight meets sponsor terms and conditions, and University, Federal and State statutes, policies, and regulations governing sponsored research.
  • Resolve discrepancies within the institution regarding awards, budgets, invoices, etc. in coordination with various central offices.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong working partnerships with faculty, OSP, and other key partners.
  • Review sponsored project expenditures for the cost allowability, administrative reasonableness, appropriate award allocability and funding availability.
  • Guide faculty and staff through changes in sponsor requirements. Ensure all required information is entered into the appropriate data systems.
  • Develop and present workshops on various sponsored project management topics.
