The Department of Neighborhood Development Services is seeking qualified candidates to be considered for the position of Property Maintenance & Housing Inspector who will be primarily responsible for the following City Neighborhoods to provide inspections of UVA Off - Grounds Student Housing areas: 10th & Page, Barracks Road, Fifeville, Fry's Spring, JPA, Lewis Mountain, Starr Hill, and Venable. Position performs technical work in the enforcement of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and applicable Charlottesville City Code requirements. Responsible for the enforcement of the Virginia Maintenance Code as a Property Maintenance & Housing Inspector of existing properties and buildings; Performs related work as required. Reports to the Property Maintenance Code Official.The preferred hiring range for this position is between $23.42 - $26.50 an Hour ($48,713.60 - $55,120.00 Annually). Starting offer is based on applicable education, experience, and internal equity. This is a full-time, non-exempt position which provides excellent benefits including 13 paid holidays plus 1 floating holiday, paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance options with employer contribution, employer-paid life insurance, City's retirement options, gym membership reimbursement, tuition reimbursement, and continuing education/training opportunities.Minimum Qualifications:High school diploma or GED required.Minimum of 3 years of experience in the building construction trades and/or building inspections OR any combination of education and experience which would confer equivalent knowledge and ability shall be deemed to satisfy this requirement.Possession of a valid driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.Certification per Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code, (Virginia Certification Standards) within 18 months of hire.Skills: Knowledge of building construction materials and methods, ability to detect poor workmanship, inferior materials, and hazards of fire and collapse; knowledge of Virginia building codes and related laws and ordinances; interpersonal communication skills; ability to establish satisfactory working relationships; firmness and tact in enforcing building ordinances and codes. Typical job tasks will require knowledge of building construction, housing inspections, electrical, elevators, fire protection, mechanical, plumbing, and/or property maintenance.A combination of on-site inspection and standard office environment with ability to climb, crawl and access various areas within or around buildings, properties, during emergencies and in all weather conditions. The job may risk exposure to inclement weather, wet or humid conditions, uneven terrain, noise, fumes, dusts and pollen, animals/wildlife, and traffic.#J-18808-Ljbffr
