The Property Security Officer operates within the UNCP University Department of Police and Public Safety. This position is responsible for providing security support and helping enforce policy and procedures to our campus community. This position is responsible for foot patrolling the designated properties and buildings, interior and exterior mainly to the Jones P.E. the GPAC and the University Center. This position will also be responsible for monitoring access in each areas checking IDs to confirm that people inside the building are approved to be inside these areas. and Hall Entry

Cards for each student that enters the building along with guest registration

during the assigned work hours.

This position may require rotating shift, weekend and/or holiday work. This position may require 0-30 hours per week, depending upon the needs of the department

Job Description

Facility Security: Conducting hourly patrols of building and ground of the university. Securing rooms and building during shift and after business hours and functions. Recognizing those situations that are not part of the normal operation of the university.

Facility Conditions: The security officer will make hourly patrols throughout the building check to determine if there are any facility problems such as water leaks, electrical problems, inoperable doors, fire hazards, lights that are out, etc. The security officer will then notify the supervisor or have a condition report completed for the existing problem.

Alarms: The security officer will be responsible for responding to and investigation of alarms. The officer will respond to the area of activation and determine if there is a problem and the proper authority that needs to respond.

Liaison: The security office will be the representative of University Police Department. They will be a liaison between the faculty, staff and student that they come in contact with during their shift. They are required to conduct themselves in a professional manner. They are to interact with the faculty, staff and student. They are required to be knowledgeable about the university and be able to properly respond to questions that may be asked of them.

Policy Compliance: The security officer will be required to comply with all departmental regulations and policies. Properly documenting all leave requests, time sheets, follow the directive of the shift supervisor, respond to calls for service as dispatched, properly maintain and wear uniform and other departmental equipment. Assist in maintaining a secure, clean and orderly work place.

Special Events: The security officer will be assigned to work special events on UNCP properties. Duties may include general security, patrolling by foot, vehicle or other means, access control, metal detector set up and operations, parking and traffic control, and other duties as assigned.

Motorists Assistance: The security officer is required to assist motorists. They will be required to comply with all protocols and provide assistance where needed. They will contact telecommunications for those services that the security officer is unable to provide.

Other duties as assigned: The security officer will be required to perform any other duties assigned to them by the shift supervisor that are needed to meet the goals of the university.

Management Preference

Previous experience in security or protection work preferred.

Lic or Certification required by statute or regulation

High School diploma or equivalent and sufficient experience to demonstrate ability to handle emergency situations. A valid N.C. Driver's License required.
