Essential Duties
1. Prepares a wide variety of written materials including grant and gift proposals, briefings, cultivation and stewardship correspondence, and research summaries with significant scientific content for both internal and external Development constituents. 2. Researches and compiles lists of prospects in the sciences and related fields for a variety of purposes, ensuring that all prospect information is accurate and up-to-date. 3. Designs, develops, and produces ad hoc reports and analyses of science prospects by report generation and manipulation of information systems, including the University's primary constituent database. 4. Develops strategy and methodology for identifying leading prospects with interests in the sciences and related fields. 5. Conducts research on individuals using office data and internet search engines, often partnering with Office of Development research associates. 6. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in the sciences, engineering, or a related field and two years of experience in scientific research and/or in project management involving professional scientific writing or equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Position Focus:
Reporting to the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Proposal Development, the Proposal Development Manager: 1) partners directly with faculty principal investigators on development of grant proposals, 2) provides advanced proposal conceptual development, technical writing and editing support, 3) collaborates with other offices within the University to support proposals through to completion and submission, and 4) works with colleagues in Corporate and Foundation Relations on other strategic writing projects, as assigned. The Proposal Development Manager is part of the Strategic Initiatives and Proposal Development team within Yale's Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations which works to attract and maintain significant philanthropic investments in support of Yale's research enterprise. The team's efforts are focused on coordinating a comprehensive and targeted approach to funding opportunities available via requests for proposals (RFP) issued by foundation and corporate prospects.
Success in the role requires grant proposal development experience with superior scientific and technical writing skills, advanced project management skills, and the ability to foster productive partnerships to facilitate grant proposal development activities.
Key responsibilities include: Identify and disseminate information on funding opportunities/requests for proposals from foundations and corporations to leadership, faculty, and administrators. Provide guidance and expertise to facilitate competitive grant applications from individual faculty members, and teams of researchers. Provide proposal conceptual development and editing/writing support for individual investigator awards, as well as large, complex team science awards. Coordinate internal resources, including those from administrative offices within Yale, to support and enhance the competitiveness of grant applications; assist faculty in navigating relevant administrative offices and requirements within Yale. Advise institutional leadership on issues related to specific funding opportunities. Serve as institutional representative to the university community, including academic leadership, faculty, and staff in a variety of roles within Yale's research enterprise.
Evidence of superior technical/scientific writing ability, as demonstrated by writing samples is required for candidates who advance through the interview process. Please submit a cover letter with your application.
