TBG is partnered with an excellent outpatient clinic seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join their team. This is a full-time position with hours of 630AM-230PM

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Chief Medical Officer, the Psych NP is responsible for delivering diagnostic and therapeutic medical care to patients. This role involves assisting with patient observation and evaluation, gathering case histories, conducting physical exams, and ordering laboratory tests.

Essential Functions

  • Provide anticipatory guidance, health screenings, and educational support to patients, promoting overall wellness and health maintenance.
  • Use a systematic approach to patient history and physical assessments, diagnosing and treating common health issues within the scope of the nurse specialist's practice, applying clinical judgment and evaluating data.
  • Prescribe, coordinate, delegate, and assess patient care.
  • Prescribe medications from the approved institutional formulary as delegated by the supervising physician.
  • Monitor and manage patients with chronic or long-term stabilized conditions.
  • Plan care strategies, utilizing community resources, and act as a liaison to ensure continuity of care, coordinating with other healthcare professionals and agencies.
  • Provide health education to individuals, families, and groups regarding specific health concerns or general wellness.
  • Contribute to quality assurance initiatives and participate in research activities.
  • Foster positive guest relations by promptly addressing the needs of patients and staff, offering courteous and respectful assistance, and maintaining confidentiality and dignity.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and ensure a clean, safe environment.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with staff and patients.
  • Continuously seek ways to enhance the quality of care provided.
  • Provide clinical staff training and education when requested.
  • Actively participate in department and agency education, training sessions, and in-services to stay current on clinical policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Nurse Practitioner license (NY State) required.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher, or completion of diploma or associate degree nursing programs. A Master's degree in nursing with a focus on psychiatric nursing is preferred.
  • At least three years of clinical psychiatry nursing experience or two years of post-master's clinical nursing experience is desirable.
  • Graduation from a nursing program accredited by an official accrediting body.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and managing medical or surgical emergencies, providing treatment until further emergency assistance is available.
  • A solid understanding of psychiatric conditions and corresponding treatments.
  • Competence in assessing patient conditions and initiating appropriate care plans.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical treatments, including mechanisms of action, potential side effects, toxicity, and drug interactions.
  • Ability to perform and interpret diagnostic tests to guide treatment decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build effective, empathetic relationships with patients.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Technologically proficient with the ability to adapt to new systems and tools.
  • Capable of making independent, informed decisions when required.

Additional Requirements

  • Flexibility to work beyond the standard 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM hours as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervises the Head Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, and Certified Medical Technicians.
