Position Description:

This full-time position reports to the Director of the Brooklyn/Staten Island Forensic Psychiatric Evaluation Court Clinic (Brooklyn/Staten Island FPECC) in the Division of Correctional Health Services. The Brooklyn/Staten Island FPECC, located in the Kings County Supreme Court Building at 320 Jay Street, Brooklyn, NY, is responsible for conducting court-ordered fitness to proceed evaluations under CPL Article 730 and presentencing evaluations under CPL Article 390 for criminal defendants with cases in Kings and Richmond Counties; preparing written reports in a timely manner for submission to the Courts; and providing courtroom testimony as necessary.

Preferred Skills:

  • Excellent diagnostic and evaluation skills with particular attention to issues related to forming opinions about psycholegal questions
  • Excellent forensic report writing skills
  • Experience working with forensic mental health populations
  • Experience in administering and scoring a wide range of psychological tests
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with other disciplines
  • Proficiency with word processing programs and spreadsheet programs
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Detailed Tasks:

  • Conduct court-ordered evaluations of criminal defendants and submit timely written reports to the Courts
  • Conduct psychological testing (intelligence, neuropsychological, personality, malingering, etc.) as needed
  • Provide teaching and supervision for clinicians in training
  • Participate in regular supervision with the Director of the Brooklyn/Staten Island FPECC
  • Actively participate in staff meetings, clinic quality improvement projects, and continuing education
  • Remain aware of and in compliance with organizational policies and procedures
  • From time to time, as needed, conduct CPL 730 and CPL 390 evaluations in the other FPECC clinics (Bronx, Manhattan, Queens)
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of the Brooklyn/Staten Island FPECC or the city-wide Director of the Forensic Psychiatric Evaluation Court Clinics
  • Qualification Requirements:

    Valid license and current registration to practice as a Psychologist issued by the NYSED; and

    Two (2) years of post-licensure experience, one (1) year of which must have been post-licensure supervisory experience; or three (3) years of post-licensure experience; and

    Completion of the NYC Health + Hospitals Supervisory training within three (3) months of appointment.
