Patient Care Supervisor This position is responsible for ensuring safe, age specific and competent care for all patients, through coordination of nursing and ancillary services. The PCS supervises patient care staff, participates in evaluations, education, and counseling. The PCS is also accountable for participating in departmental planning and development. The PCS assists in establishing and achieving department specific objectives.
Essential Job Functions*:Leadership- Provides clinical expertise and leadership support to the staff in the delivery of safe, quality, patient/family centered care.
- Coordinates flow of patients across departments and assists with appropriate staff placement based on the clinical needs of the patient and the skill/mix of the staff.
- Serves as a liaison/resource for providers and other members of the organization.
- Promotes teamwork and collaboration among departments.
- Supports the implementation and evaluation of department goals and objectives.
- Supports the activities of the nursing department to achieve objectives for cost effectiveness to ensure compliance with fiscal budget.
- Participates in departmental quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaborates with Nurse Directors to complete annual performance evaluations and set clear performance expectations through establishment of performance goals and performance improvement plans.
- Demonstrates an effective working relationship with all members of the health care team, patients, family, and visitors.
- Complies with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards as related to job.
- Creates an environment which supports professionalism, personal growth, and the mission, vision, and values of SMH.
Educator- Serves as a professional role model and mentor to staff and promotes personal development.
- Assists with providing nursing department education to the off shifts.
- Facilitates clear communication among members of the healthcare team (SBAR) and with patients and families.
- Acts as a change agent and supports staff through complex change.
Systems Thinking- Analyzes and solves problems and issues using global thinking and staff participation in problem resolution.
- Communicates concerns up the chain of command and to the appropriate department director and administrator as required.
- Fosters a safe reporting culture by focusing on systems and processes along with accountability.
- Helps staffs understand how their department and their roles fit into the larger organization.
Qualifications:Required: Associates Degree or Diploma in Nursing.Preferred: Bachelor of Nursing.
Required: Five (5) years RN experience in acute care. One (1) year previous leadership experience.Preferred: Previous Supervisor or Management experience.
- Licensure/Certifications/Registrations
Required: Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of New Hampshire. Current BLS certification (adult, child, and infant).ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and NRP are required within 1 year of hire.Preferred: Certification in a field of Nursing. Prefer ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and NRP certifications at time of hire.
Required: must have all skills outlined in the Staff RN job description. Also, have an ability to teach/demonstrate new skills and equipment; run mock codes; follow through on performance issues.Preferred: experience with doing performance appraisals, interviewing, and performance management.
