Basic Function and Scope of Responsibilities: Long Island University, an NCAA Division I institution, seeks applications for a part-time Assistant Dance Coach. The Assistant Dance Coach reports to the Head Dance Coach and assists in developing a competitive dance program, game day activities/routines, community engagement and meeting recruiting goals.
Principal Responsibilities:
Assist in the recruitment and retention of the Long Island University Dance Team at the Brooklyn and Post campuses
Assist in the management of all aspects of the dance program, including practices, performances, equipment, and student athlete experience
Promote the academic success of student-athletes in collaboration with Student Affairs
Assist in the management of the overall dance team budget and fundraising efforts
Assist in scheduling practice facilities and times
Adhere to all rules and regulations applicable to Athletics, Student Life, and Long Island University
Travel with the team for games, competitions, and other activities as necessary
Assist in the coordination with other spirit programs to ensure a dynamic Division I game-day experience; and,
Help form partnerships and relationships with high school dance coaches and organizations that help attract top dancers to the University
Other duties as assigned by the Head Dance Coach, Student Affairs, Athletics, and other University leadership
Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree required
Training, Skills, Knowledge, Experience:
Demonstrated expertise in technical aspect of the sport, particularly in jazz, pom, and hip-hop styles
Previous coaching experience, preferably in a college or university setting
Experience on a collegiate dance team and/or experience coaching on a dance team
Demonstrated talent in building cohesive teams
Clear evidence of leadership in and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and a record of working collaboratively with constituencies with diplomacy, empathy, and tact Sensitivity to and demonstrated an understanding of the needs of a diverse student body
Excellent oral and written communication skills with sound judgement and decision-making
High energy and enthusiasm to work with students and propel them toward success
Ability to design and implement innovative programs with a strong attention to detail
Interpersonal communication skills
Computer skills/literacy
Working Conditions:
Flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, are required to properly execute the position's role.
Occasional travel to/from other LIU campuses for the facilitation of trainings, meetings, games, and other university functions.
Compensation:
The part-time Assistant Dance Coach is compensated with a $10,000 yearly stipend.
