Reports To Animal Control Director

Location: Animal Control Office, 6119 E. Highland Jonesboro Ar. 72401

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

This safety sensitive (SS) position is responsible for the care and maintenance of the kennel area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Cleans and disinfects kennels. This duty is performed daily.

2. Feeds and waters animals. This duty is performed daily.

3. Provides initials intake service on animals dip/bath. This duty is performed daily.

4. Prepares animals for adoption. This duty is performed daily.

5. Cleans officer's trucks. This duty is performed daily.

6. Cleans equipment i.e. cages, traps, travel kennels. This duty is performed daily.

7. Performs kennel maintenance and small repairs. This duty is performed daily.

8. Assist's Animal Control Officers in holding of animals for euthanasia. This duty is performed as needed.

9. Provides maintenance on grounds. This duty is performed weekly.

10. Operates a city vehicle for essential functions. This duty is performed as needed.

11. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Mental alertness and adaptability to office and field area work routines. Equivalent to four years high school or GED, with particular emphasis during high school in office skills, shop skills, or others, plus 7 to 11 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence, notes, letters and memos; Ability to write simple correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Ability to utilize common sense understanding in order to carry out written, oral or diagrammed instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several known variables in situations of a routine nature.
