Position Type: Support Staff/Instructional AideDate Posted: 11/5/2024Location: Kane Area Elementary SchoolDate Available: 2024-25 school yearClosing Date: until filled$12.50 per hour 5 1/2 hrs per day Part Time PARA PROFESSIONAL CLASS ROOM AIDE QUALIFICATIONS: Paraprofessionals working in the Kane Area Elementary School must fulfill state requirements by achieving ONE of the following:
  • Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education
  • Obtained an associate's or higher degree OR
  • Meet a rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated on a local assessment to posses the knowledge and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
For applicants that do not already possess these qualifications, the Kane Area School District will provide the training and testing needed for Highly Qualified status upon employment.. Willingness to follow instructions of principal, teacher, or Title I teacher while working with children. . Must maintain ongoing professional development as per Title I regulations (20 hours professional development annually) . Such alternative to the above as the Board may find appropriate and Acceptable REPORTS TO: Building Principal and/ or designee JOB GOAL: Assure that student needs are addressed under the direction of a professional staff, i.e Title I teacher or classroom teacher in order to enable student success in his/her educational program. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Assist assigned students by tending to individual, personal, social and / or academic needs to help the student gain access to his/her educational program as directed by professional staff. 2. Work in conjunction with the classroom teachers to learn appropriate intervention strategies to implement with assigned students. 3. Reinforce safety and hygiene protocol implementation with students while in the school environment. 4. Participate in 20 hours of para-professional training required by Pennsylvania Department of Education to maintain Highly Qualified Para Professional (HQ) status. 5. Attend training specifically to learn how to appropriately implement academic strategies to help students. 6. Implement student daily activity plans as directed by professionals. 7. Attend meetings as directed by professional staff. 8. Assist with the documentation of strategies implemented to monitor student progress. 9. Assist in the supervision of students as assigned in the cafeteria (breakfast and / or lunch), playground and getting ready for dismissal. 10. Any other duties assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.POSITION SPECIFICATIONS: Physical Demands: Ability to sit and talk and hear; Ability to stand; walk, climb or balance, stoop kneel crouch or crawl and move quickly when necessary to promote participants' safety; Ability to lift and/ or move or transfer 50 lbs. Sensory Ability: Ability to speak clearly and distinctly; Auditory acuity to be able to hear students and directions, use telephone; Visual acuity to see participant activity in the school environment and extra curricular areas such as pool and playground, and read correspondence. Work Environment: Regular school environment (indoor and outdoors, including planned field trips) Temperament: Ability to work independently and with a team; Must be courteous; Must be cooperative and service oriented; Ability to be flexible in meeting the needs of students with disabilities which may require cross training.
