Salary: $16.00 - $17.64 HourlyLocation : Lompoc, CAJob Type: Temporary, Working Part-time HoursJob Number: 517FY/24-25Department: Community DevelopmentOpening Date: 07/01/2024Closing Date: ContinuousDEFINITION/SELECTION PROCESSUnder direction of the Recreation Supervisor/Coordinator, the Building Attendant assists the Recreation Division in supervising the recreation facilities Center during hours other than regular business hours during rentals and special events; sets up and takes down furnishings for Center rentals, and evaluates rental activities; also assists with other recreation program areas as necessary.CLASS TITLES: Building Attendant I Building Attendant II ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/EXAMPLES OF DUTIESThe following duties are typical of this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.Supervises Recreation Center and maintains visibility for drop-in activities as well as building rentals; sets up and takes down furnishings per renters' instructions and prepares rooms for public meetings, rentals, classes, etc.; completes attendance, maintenance and other reports as requested; secures building at end of shift; maintains an element of control and care of department facilities, equipment and supplies; completes nightly and specially assigned custodial duties; and performs other duties as required. TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONSInclude any combination of training, education and experience which would provide the required knowledges and abilities. Knowledge of: A variety of recreation activities; facility management techniques; basic custodial practices; basic health and safety practices; policies and procedures for rentals and special events.Ability to: Communicate effectively with staff and public; be self-directed and versatile; follow verbal and written direction; complete reports accurately and neatly in a timely manner; work independently in an unsupervised environment; work evenings, holidays, and weekends.SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATIONMust be at least 16 years of age with a valid work permit; possess a positive attitude; and flexibility to work in other recreation program areas.The information herein does not constitute an expressed or implied contract.These provisions are subject to change without notice.• At-Will designation refers to full-time employees in certain classifications and all part-time, temporary employees. The unclassified, non-budgeted employee is at-will, has no probationary period, and may be rejected at any time without cause and without the right of appeal.• Part-time, temporary appointments are at-will assignments, not subject to the competitive service process, and serve at the direction and discretion of the assigned department.• Part-time, temporary appointments are not eligible to receive vacation, holidays, or any other benefits provided to budgeted, regular status employees.• Part-time, temporary appointments, including PT PERS are eligible to accrue paid sick leave up to 5 days or 40 hours of accrued paid sick leave per year. Any accrued sick leave cannot be cashed out upon termination. (PT Retiree Annuitants are not eligible to accrue paid sick leave.)• Part-time, temporary appointments can be made for a period of up to 19 hours per week and cannot exceed 1,000 hours worked within one fiscal year without prior approval.
