The Program Nurse exercises discretion and independent judgment to ensure quality of services delivered and operations are within regulatory compliance (OPWDD, OMH, DOH, OSHA) and agency guidelines. Scheduled 20-25 hours weekly.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIESConduct AMAP recertifications and supervise medication pours as needed.Complete Plan of Nursing Services (PONS) for individuals in OPWDD housing and Day Habilitation participants.Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and regulatory compliance of the Health and Nursing Services for program record keeping system including obtaining necessary reports, completing nursing care plans and writing case notes. Documentation occurs both in paper MARs as well as in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) Foothold.Perform medication audits.Serve as a member of Gateway's Health and Safety Committee, Incident Review Committee, High Risk Team Meeting and other committees as needed.Function as a liaison with outside public and private agencies for health/nursing related matters as needed.Assess program participants, develop Nursing Care Plans as needed and help facilitate educational programs to accomplish the goals for staff and program participants.Provide, as needed, day-to-day nursing services throughout Gateway, including medication administration, emergency care/first aid and health & safety.Maintain program participant medical files for applicable programs.Work cooperatively with the Department VP, or designees, to assess, plan and develop nursing care goals and necessary educational programs to accomplish the goals for staff and program participants.Provide input to the Department VP regarding the operations of the Department as related to Health Services, medication management, and care plans.Participate in assigned meetings.Educate staff and validate competencies regarding delegated tasks, documents competencies. Provides feedback and recommendations to program staff, Directors, and VP regarding observations. Provide consultation regarding needed medical actions and follow up.Dispose of Full Sharps Containers at identified appropriate drop-off locations.Dispose of controlled and non-controlled substances and document disposal.Dispense PRN Medications for clients with valid ordersCoordinate care of clients with nurses from other agencies.Other duties as assigned.QualificationsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation:Associate's Degree in nursing requiredBachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferredExperience:Two years' experience in direct nursing careExperience with working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferredExperience in writing and reviewing policies as well as experience in teaching and planning in-service programs desirableLicenses / Certifications:Current NYS RN LicenseWORKING CONDITIONSMust be able to Sit or stand for 8 hours/dayMust be able to bend down or kneel occasionally (1-2 times/week)Must be able to use hands, wrists, and fingers with full range of motionMust be able to perform CPR in an emergency situation and for regular recertification.May occasionally be required to lift no more than 50 pounds (1-2 times per month)REGULATORY CLEARANCES REQUIRED:Background checks are required.We are an EEO/AA employer M/F/D/V/SO employer
