Job Description:
The individual in this position is responsible for performing dual roles as a part-time tip staff and part-time court clerk.As a part-time tip staff, this position acts as a messenger to the Jury Administrator and assists the Court Crier Administrator to ensure efficient operation of courtroom activity. This person escorts jurors from the Jury Assembly Room to the deliberation rooms and to courtrooms as instructed by the Judge, Jury Manager and Court Crier Administrator. Acts as a sentry to the courtroom during opening statements and closing statements and to the jury deliberation rooms during breaks and deliberations. Communicates with the Sheriff's Deputies assigned to the courtroom of any issues related to visitors or with the jury. Communicates all juror issues with the Jury Administrator and Court Crier Administrator. Takes lunch and drink orders for the jury. Assists Part-Time Clerk with non-trial related procedures during court proceedings; to get files to the Court Crier Administrator during all court proceedings. Escorts defendants to Clerk of Courts Office and Bureau of Cost and Fines as needed. Ensures that the courtroom and deliberation rooms have water, ice, cups, tissues and other supplies as needed. Clean up the jury deliberation rooms and wipes down the tables and chairs after each use.As a part-time court clerk, this position is responsible for assisting with clerical work in the Courtroom, Jury Office, Court Administration, Clerk of Courts and Prothonotary Offices. This person performs various duties as a member of the Jury Room Staff under the supervision of the Jury Administrator. Acts as the lead communicator between the Court Crier Administrator and assigned Tipstaff, Jury Assembly Room Staff and Jury Administrator. Processes workflow electronically during court proceedings; including scanning documents, processing continuances and creating buckets in CPCMS and other related computer tasks. Assists the Court Crier Administrator in passing papers and files to the Judge, Attorneys and Jury Administrator. Working with the computer for the day within Court Administration, Clerk of Courts, Prothonotary and in the Courtroom. Fill in as Court Crier Administrator. Escorts jurors from the Jury Assembly Room to the deliberation rooms and to courtrooms as instructed by the Judge, Jury Administrator and Court Crier Administrator. Acts as a messenger between the Court Crier Administrator to the Jury Administrator and from the Jury to the Judge to deliver messages from the Jury. Communicates with the Sheriff's Deputies assigned to the courtroom of any issues related to spectators or with the jury. Also performs Tip Staff tasks as needed.Graduation from high school or an accredited equivalency program is required. One year of experience in clerical work to include public contact and computer knowledge preferred. Any acceptable combination of training and/or experience.This is a union covered position. The starting hourly rate for a tip staff is $12.49. The starting hourly rate for a court clerk is $17.23.A favorable criminal background check is required.
