University Communications and Marketing (UCM) at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke is responsible for marketing the university to prospective students, alumni and other constituents, and for brand development and compliance. Additionally, UCM is charged with developing and communicating the university's message through positive media and community relationships. UCM is also the functional division that houses Givens Performing Arts Center and Print Services.

Primary Purpose of Position

The Communications and Marketing Manager is responsible for the development of innovative marketing and communications strategies and plans for the colleges and schools, departments and academic support units of Academic Affairs, as well as that of larger university strategic goals in coordination with the UCM team. This position is responsible for effective communication with all constituent groups, ensuring a positive brand for the university.

Job Description

The Communications and Marketing Manager provides direction, planning, and implementation of internal and external communication initiatives with departments and offices across campus, ensuring alignment with university values and strategic areas of focus. This position will develop comprehensive and unit-specific marketing and communication plans; lead varying unit-related branding efforts; offer counsel to faculty and staff on public relations and marketing projects; measure and provide reports on PR and marketing campaigns; support the communications efforts of Academic Affairs; develop and deploy marketing assets on a project-basis; foster a close working relationship with deans, faculty and leadership to identify opportunities to tell the UNCP story; and work collaboratively with members of the UCM team to achieve strategic goals.

Management Preference

Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, English, public relations, journalism or a related field. Preference for candidates with higher education experience.

* Strong communication and analytical skills

* High degree of initiative and ability to identify and pursue stories and opportunities that help further the UNCP narrative and brand

* Ability to work collaboratively with internal and/or external constituents

* Demonstrated ability to plan, develop and manage multi-channel marketing campaigns

* Commitment to quality with a high level of accuracy and dependability

* Flexibility to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while simultaneously handling multiple priorities

* Familiarity with relevant software, programs, and platforms, and ability to design and disseminate a variety of print and electronic marketing and communications (ex. social media platforms, Adobe Creative Suite and website CMS)
