What We Offer
The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $21 per hour. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

This is a limited position with an expected end date of one year from date of hire.
Location
The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site 3 days per week and off-site as needed. This is a hybrid position, but employees will be expected to be in the office at least 3 days per week and as needed. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.
What You'll Do
Denver's Department of Public Health and Environment (DDPHE) is dedicated to advancing Denver's environmental and public health goals. DDPHE works collaboratively with city, state and community partners to conduct education, community engagement, and enforcement to promote healthy people, healthy pets, and a sustainable environment. DDPHE oversees a number of services related to public health and the environment and is comprised of six divisions: Division of Shared Services and Business Operations; Community & Behavioral Health; Public Health Investigations; Denver Animal Protection; the Office of Medical Examiner; Environmental Quality; and Emergency Management and Medical Operations. DDPHE is building a more representative workforce that reflects the diversity of Denver communities. We have one Public Health AmeriCorps members / Community Health Worker Apprentice positions available for those interested in exploring a career in public and/or environmental health. Through supportive on-the-job learning and related classroom instruction using in-person and virtual formats, the successful candidates will gain the skills and knowledge needed to advance into a public health career. Certain requirements are required to be completed within a 1-year on-the-job training period.
Specifically, in this role, you will:
* Conduct community outreach to individuals, communities, service providers, and groups.
* Assist individuals and communities in navigating health and social service systems.
* Implements individual and community assessments.
* Provide culturally and linguistically appropriate health education and information.
* Provide coaching and social support.
* Build professional relationships and networks with service providers across systems to understand client services and resources.
* Keep routine records, write reports, and completes forms.
* Comply with standard safety rules and procedures. Learns the industry standards, regulatory standards, operational processes, and other guiding professional practices.
* Along with all department staff, this position will actively participate on an emergency preparedness and response team to support DDPHE's responsibilities outlined in the City's Emergency Operations Plan. This may require being 'on-call' from time to time to help respond to emergencies. Additional training commensurate with assigned duties will be provided.
* Other duties as assigned.
This position will be assigned to our Community and Behavioral Health division within DDPHE. See information below about the role/division.
* Community and Behavioral Health (CBH): This position will support CBH Youth Suicide Prevention Team activities related to school and community-based events. Duties may include a) scheduling and coordinating school-based activities with Denver Public Schools; b) conducting data analysis and interpretation; c) assisting in organizing a new set of Standard Operating Procedures; d) working with community-based organizations and business partners in planning and executing school and community-based events; and e) invoicing and contract administration.

Required Minimum Qualifications
* Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate. Must enroll in a recognized apprentice program.
* Experience Requirement: 18 years of age or older.
* Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of peer support or related job experience or volunteer work may be substituted for the high school education.
* License/Certifications: None.
Note: While a driver's license is not required, individuals in these positions may need to attend in-person events around Denver. The individuals must arrange for transportation to attend such events should they arise.
Requirements to be completed after hiring:
* Within 5 days of being hire, register with local Workforce Center at Connecting Colorado or update registration if currently registered with Connecting Colorado and email DDPHE verifying you have completed or updated registration with Connecting Colorado.
* Within 45 after being hired, complete Apprenticeship Agreement and submit to Apprenticeship Sponsor. DDPHE will assist with completion of Apprenticeship Agreement and submitting paperwork to the Apprenticeship Sponsor.
* Other mandatory requirements to be completed after hire.
