Extra-Help are not entitled to county benefits and are limited to a maximum of 25 hours per week. Extra-Help pay rate is $35.63 - $39.31 per hour. Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • May provide case management services and utilization reviews for programs including California Children Services, Child Health and Disability Prevention Program, MCAH Outreach, Medi-Cal Targeted Case Management, Nurse Family Partnership, and Indigent Health Care Program.
  • Investigate and interview parents; assess and screen at-risk individuals; Act as patient advocate.
  • Instruct parents on child safety, growth, development; signs of abuse, poor nutrition and failure to thrive.
  • May provide crisis assistance and participate in patient meetings for special needs children.
  • May work directly in Immunization, STD, TB, and HIV Testing clinics.
  • Administer tuberculosis medications, perform and read skin test for tuberculosis diagnosis.
  • Search for unreported or missed cases of communicable diseases.
  • Conduct home visits to collect and/or complete health forms related to communicable disease.
  • Provides outreach and education by giving presentations and teaching classes to the public.
  • Provide orientation and training to community providers to assure adherence to quality standards.
  • Acts as on-call nurse to receive referrals and provide information.
  • May develop in-service programs for care providers, provide Targeted Case Management services, and engage in outreach and other activities to enhance services to Medi-Cal beneficiaries.
Minimum QualificationsPHN IEducation: Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university nursing program. PHN IIExperience: One year's full-time nursing experience in Public or Community Health. (Additional experience may be required for certain positions.) Education: Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university nursing program. Level I/IILicense: Possession of a valid California Registered Nurse License. Possession of a valid California Public Health Nurse Certificate issued by the State of California Board of Registered Nursing is required.   • Regulations and licensing requirements.
Ability to:
  • Educate and work with patients and their families.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing; follow oral and written instructions.
  • Assess the physical conditions of patients; draw blood samples.
  • Detect health problems and assist in intervention to promote optimal health care.
HOLIDAYS & LEAVES VACATION 10 days the first 5 years of continuous employment (limited to a maximum of 160 hours), 15 days in the second 5 years of continuous employment (limited to a maximum of 240 hours), and 20 days after 10 years of continuous employment (limited to a maximum of 320 hours). SICK LEAVE 0.0462 hours sick leave for each paid regularly scheduled work hour. 12 days (96 hours per year) with unlimited accumulation. Optional annual buy back of a portion of accumulated sick leave hours upon meeting certain criteria. HOLIDAYS Twelve paid holidays annually plus one optional holiday. BEREAVEMENT LEAVE Three (3) regularly scheduled work days or five (5) days if distance traveled over 500 miles one-way. Medical plan availability varies based on bargaining units.

  • Merced County non-management employees are enrolled in the State Disability Insurance Program (SDI). Premiums for this insurance are paid by the employee. This insurance is administered solely by the State, who determines eligibility and payments. Benefit amounts are based on the quarter with the highest wages earned within the base period.

MCERA members also pay into Social Security. The applicable benefit formula is dependent upon your hire date with an MCERA employer; your pension amount will be determined by your age, years of service and final compensation amount.
