Providing care to clients in the General Clinic by providing Primary Prevention through Immunization Administration; to assist in Family Planning, Maternity, Child Health and Communicable Disease. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated on the basis of attainment of individual performance objectives, observation, accuracy of reports and feedback from employees and the general public. DUTIES
- Coordinates and prepares for clinic
- Makes a thorough assessment of client's physical, mental, psychosocial and emotional status utilizing the nursing process.
- Makes appropriate referrals and provides follow up.
- Reviews lab findings, makes referrals as indicated and provides follow up.
- Provides immunization to clients under standing orders after ascertaining they are in optimal state of wellness.
- Follows established guidelines from ACIP when administering vaccines to clients who are delinquent in immunizations.
- Provides anticipatory guidance to patients and/or family concerning signs/symptoms to observe client for after receiving immunization and appropriate action to take should these occur.
- Screens, collaborates with Advanced Practice Provider (APP) and provides appropriate referral of clients who present to clinic with varying problems (i.e. Head lice, rashes, signs/symptoms of illness).
- Collects history, height, weight, blood pressure and pulse and records data. Obtains informed consents where appropriate. Reports problems to supervising nurse or APP - document problems. Prepares slides and cultures for APP to obtain specimen.
- Provides direct patient care by collecting physical status data; such as, blood pressure, weight, height, vision, hearing screen and pulse. Assists with identification of problems and refers any patient with problems to APP. Works in outreach clinics, health fairs as assigned.
- Attends staff meetings, attends continuing education workshops and in-service programs.
- Provides nursing coverage in shelters as needed.
- Performs related duties as assigned. Duties may also include Preparedness activities/directives as assigned by Supervisor/ Director of Nursing or Health Director.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of Bladen County Health Department as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Public Health Nurse II-Registered Nurse.
- Through knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Thorough knowledge of and skill in professional nursing theory and practice; has considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of public health nursing and patient care services, including clinic services; has considerable knowledge of medical terminology, clinic routine and equipment; has considerable knowledge of aseptic techniques and infection control in a clinic setting and inpatient treatment and care; has considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions pertaining to health care and clinic settings; has considerable knowledge of the methods of medical case recording and report preparation. Comprehensive knowledge of the terminology and various professional languages used within the department.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a B.S. Degree in Nursing which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation and one year of Public Health Nursing experience; or graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing and two years professional nursing experience including one year in public health; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.Special Requirements
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License
- Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse by the N.C. Board of Nursing.
