This is a full-time, benefits eligible position with the Wilson County Government. Hours: The regular work hours are from 8:00am to 5:00 pm, five days a week (Monday through Friday). Night, evening, and weekend work is performed as needed or required to meet Health Department needs.Compensation: The starting salary for a fully qualified Public Health Nurse III starts at $64,644 + a COMPETITIVE BENEFITS PACKAGE. Description of Work The primary purpose of this position is to function as the Nurse Coordinator for the Family Planning Program. This position serves as the nursing resource person within the Health Department for the Family Planning Program. Position interviews, counsels, and treats clients in all clinical areas of the Health Department. Position, upon completion of Adult Physical Assessment/STD Physical Assessment course through UNC, performs Enhanced Role RN duties as a STD/BCCCP examiner.Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to: Position spends the majority of the time in the Family Planning Clinic providing direct patient care.Serves as liaison with the regional and state offices, interpreting and disseminating information in the Family Planning Program.Responsible for assessing the need for in-service trainings among the staff involved in Family Planning and assists the Nursing Supervisor in orienting new employees to the Family Planning Program.Responsible for following-up on Family Planning clients and reviewing clients' records and evaluating to ensure that these duties are carried out in a prompt manner.The health educators and this position work jointly to review educational materials, which will be appropriate to use in conjunction with, program services.Position actively participates in all program and record audits relating to Family Planning and responsible for informing the nursing staff of any deficiencies.Position is responsible for ensuring that other staff is appropriately providing care for the Family Planning patients. Position is directly responsible to the Clinical Nursing Supervisor for ensuring that all essential components of this program are carried out according to approved policies and procedures.The review of clinic charts is also this position's responsibility. The records must be completely and properly filled out with any documentation problems being brought to the attention of the staff nurse involved.Position works with the M.D. and/or Advanced Practice Practitioner (APP) in the Family Planning Clinic. Position alerts the M.D. and/or Advanced Practice Practitioner (APP) of any problems encountered during the screening of patients. Position also assures that all appropriate records are co-signed by the medical consultant. This position is responsible for assuring that high-risk Family Planning clients are identified, entered in our tracking system, and receiving proper follow-up.This position also counsels' patients on fertility awareness. These sessions may take place in the Family Planning clinic or scheduled on an individual basis.Telephone calls and letters are often used to ask clients about a variety of situations, including coming to the Health Department for test results or supplies. Position is the primary person responsible for seeing that proper follow-up is carried out and documented. Although position may delegate this follow-up to one of the other health department nurses, position is still responsible to see this is carried out.Stay updated in all areas of nursing practice by attending workshops, in-services, and maintaining required continuing education hours.Duties as assigned by the Health Director and/or their designee.Assigned duties related to bio-terrorism and Emergency Response activities, including staffing emergency shelters. Minimum Education and Experience Qualifications for a fully qualified applicant include:Graduation from a four-year college or university with a B.S. in Nursing which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation and two years of Public Health nursing experience; or a Master's in Public Health and graduation from a school of professional nursing and two years of professional nursing experience; or graduation from a school of professional nursing and three years of professional nursing experience including two years of Public Health nursing experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.Necessary Special Qualifications - A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the N. C. Board of Nursing.A copy of the college transcript must be attached to the application.
