Description Gaston County Public Health is committed to protecting, promoting and preserving the health and well-being of all Gaston County residents. Examples of DutiesThe duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.
  • Clinic Duties: Fully oriented to all programs and services, can assist team by providing direct nursing care as needed. Utilizes the Nursing Process to assess, interview, triage, educate and implement the plan of care. Provides patient care, administer immunizations per CDC guidelines and assist with procedures and provide treatments per clinic guidelines as needed. Documents nursing interventions in EHR per policy.
  • Supervision/Human Resources: Oversee staff, complete schedule, leave adjustment, time off requests, approve time worked, posting positions, hiring and evaluations. Maintains big picture staffing plan to orient to charge role, assures follow-up is completed per our policy, trains new staff to be back-up for all roles. Onboards and orients new staffing using appropriate orientation tools and checklists. Mentors and coaches new and current staff.
  • Supervisory Duties - Reviews, revises and creates policies, procedures and Standing orders to assure compliance with state, federal and program specific standards of care. Sends all policies to Nursing Supervisor III for review, revisions, and approval. Assures written processes are created and reviewed and accessible to all staff who need them. Reports program data: uses data to make program decisions. May prepare written, narrative, and statistical reports of program activities, trends and issues affecting services. Monitors 340B compliance at assigned locations. Works with Provider Lead to oversee appointment panels at their location.
  • Communication - Communicates frequently with team, in person, by email or through team meetings and huddles. Communicates with the Provider Lead and Nursing Supervisor III. Serves as a resource to staff, other departments, and the community by assisting with information and resources needed. Communicates with patients to provide information and mitigate patient complaints or concerns.
  • Quality Assurance / Quality Improvement: Is responsible for knowing and following designated state agreement addenda procedures and assuring documentation meets state requirements. Participates in QA / QI initiatives, quarterly program audits and states audits. Collaborates and communicates with co-workers, providers, Nursing Supervisor III, and other departments to ensure best practices are known and documented.
  • Disaster Response: Assists the community during emergencies such as natural disasters or bio-terrorism events by delivering services in the field as needed. Participates in staffing emergency shelter, administering vaccinations to the community and providing nursing care to assure community safety.
  • Implement strategies aimed at achieving Health Equity, including but not limited to attending trainings to better understand inequities, identifying, and addressing barriers to health, serving on the Health Equity Team or its subcommittees, engaging in internal or external efforts to eliminate health disparities.
  • Carryout Performance Management (PM) roles and responsibilities, including identifying and communicating performance improvement opportunities and adjusting performance and practice to achieve established PM goals.
Minimum Qualifications Associate Degree in Nursing must have 5 years public health nursing experience or equivalent and 1 year of supervisory experience; BSN: must have 4 years public health nursing experience or equivalent and 1-year supervisory experience, preferred. Must have a valid driver's license and CPR certification.A copy of your unencumbered NC RN License & valid CPR Certification card must be attached to the application.Special knowledge, abilities, skills, physical requirements and other factors: Family Planning, TB, STD, Immunization and Communicable Disease Experience preferred.Additional Information The applicant selected must undergo a criminal background check and pass a drug screening test prior to employment.
