Grade/Salary Range: B22/(21.53 - $26.17 hourly) - Non-exempt salary commensurate with experience Position Summary:Under the direction of the WIC Program Nutrition Supervisor, the Public Health Nutrition Associate is responsible for performing assessments on WIC Program participants to identify nutritional needs; Provides participants with nutritional education and individualized nutrition programs to support a healthy lifestyle. Responsibilities include but not limited to:Conducts interviews with program participants; Obtains health assessment data and provides nutrition consultation to pregnant, post-partum and breastfeeding women, infants, and preschool children; Performs anthropometrics and hematological data collection including finger sticks; Discusses health risks and assists clients with setting nutrition goals. Reviews, updates, and evaluates medical data to determine program eligibility and prescribes appropriate food package(s). Contacts physician, specialist, or client to gather all pertinent information regarding formula, change in formula, program eligibility, or other medical needs. Refers participants as applicable to health and social services.Provides nutrition education, including breastfeeding promotion and support; refers participants to other health and social services and conducts appropriate follow-up. Develops and documents nutrition services provided including referrals; updates database and generates reports; Responds to participant's and doctor's questions regarding formula and food packages; Issues breastfeeding equipment. Assists in and develops educational materials which meet the needs of agency service providers and is considerate of various educational, ethnic, and socio-economic levels and community groups; Plans and conducts group nutrition education classes.Is an active participant in professional growth through attendance at meetings, trainings, workshops, self-instructional courses, and webinars.Supports PHDMC goals, mission, vision, values, and objectives through daily tasks and special projects.Minimum Qualifications: Graduate of an associate degree program approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and registered as a Dietetic Technician or possess two (2) year technical certificate; OR Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics approved by the Board of Dietetics.Up to date with continuing education creditsUnderstands and acknowledges that Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County uses evidence-based and evidence-informed public health practices based on scientific research including health promotion theory and practice, environmental health measures, and communicable disease control measures including vaccination, isolation, and quarantine practices, and medicine for treatment and prevention of disease, among others.Understands and acknowledges the use of tobacco or nicotine products in any form including replacement therapy products and prescription medications used to treat smoking addiction for anyone hired after January 1, 2014, is prohibitedRequired to play an active role during a public health emergency, crisis, outbreak, incident, or event in which the Health Commissioner deems additional personnel resources are warranted.
