This position is working as a contractor for the Shiprock, NM Indian Health Service on a 1099 basis.$130,000 - $150,000 a yearLocation: Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC), Shiprock Service Unit, Navajo Area Indian Health Service (NAIHS), New MexicoContract Length: 1 YearWork Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.Job Summary:The Public Health Nutritionist - Registered Dietitian will provide outpatient and occasional inpatient clinical nutrition services, with a strong focus on diabetes education and medical nutrition therapy. This position supports the Northern Navajo Medical Center's mission to deliver quality healthcare to the Navajo community. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in diabetes education and demonstrate expertise in assessing, educating, and managing patients of all ages.Key Responsibilities:Outpatient and Inpatient Nutrition Services-Provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) for outpatients and occasionally inpatients.-Deliver diabetes self-management education, including individual counseling and group classes, for patients of all ages, including gestational diabetes cases.-Assist patients with continuous glucose monitors, capillary glucose testing, and blood glucose monitors.-Collaborate with the Health Education Center diabetes education team and outpatient clinic staff, including physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.-Participate in adolescent wellness camps by preparing meal plans and conducting wellness education activities on or off hospital property.Clinical Operations and Documentation-Clearly and accurately complete timesheets, including: -Performance period worked (e.g., 03/18/2024 to 03/29/2025). -Daily hours worked, excluding lunch breaks, with supervisor approval for skipped lunches. -Total hours recorded in accordance with the purchase order. -Obtain required signatures from contractor personnel and department supervisors.-Provide consultation to Internal Medicine and Family Medicine staff regarding patient care.-Review and adhere to clinical records documentation procedures, ensuring records are accurate and properly maintained.Qualifications:Required:-Current Registered Dietitian license (RD or RDN).-Minimum 2 years of experience in diabetes education, including: -Individual counseling and group education for patients of all ages, including gestational diabetes. -Assessing and educating patients on lifestyle changes for diabetes prevention and treatment. -Knowledge of diabetes-related medications, physical activity recommendations, and glucose monitoring systems.Preferred:-Certification as a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES).Work Environment:-Services will be provided across multiple outpatient clinics, including Fast Track/Emergency Department, Family Medicine, and Internal Medicine clinics, as well as the Health Education Center.-Occasional inpatient diabetes and nutrition education may be required.Key Skills and Attributes:-Strong knowledge of diabetes prevention and management.-Expertise in medical nutrition therapy and patient education.-Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.-Excellent organizational, communication, and record-keeping skills.
