Public Information Officer
JOB SUMMARY: The Public Information Officer (PIO) plans, develops, and manages a comprehensive communications program including public relations, media relations, community engagement, and brand messaging. PIO is responsible for creating, editing and writing press releases; managing media relations; designing and producing graphics and content; creating written responses to emergent situations; creating content for and managing the school district's social media and website platforms; and developing strategic social media campaigns to inform and engage stakeholders.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Exempt, 12-Month Position; Full-Time; Start Date 2/1/23
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
QUALIFICATIONS:
? Bachelor's degree preferred; Associate degree required in Communications, Digital Marketing or a related field; Preferred one year experience in education setting.
? Ability to manage social media presence for an organization.
? Mastery of photography and videography equipment. (DSLRs, Digital Video Cameras, Microphones, and other recording equipment)
? Ability to use written language in various forums (website, press releases, social media).
? Ability to communicate effectively with all users with a positive and professional attitude.
? Possess strong skills in written and verbal communication, creative and technical writing, editing, organization, and public speaking.
? Ability to work independently or with a team, take initiative, meet deadlines, and manage projects.
? Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Google products, and Microsoft Office.
? Professional work experience in digital media, social media, graphic design, digital content management, journalism, or a related field. Experience in an education setting preferred.
? Ability to work effectively, communicate courteously, and engage professionally with stakeholders at every level of the organization.
? Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
DUTIES:
? Compose, edit and write press releases for superintendent and district.
? Designs and posts engaging content for district social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
? Respond, in writing, to emergent and crisis situations, as needed.
? Assists with composing, designing, editing, or proofreading press releases or newsletters.
? Assists with live streaming of board meetings, and other JCPS special events as needed.
? Attends board meetings, special events, and sports games. Posts real-time content, and records content for later editing.
? Develops a social media calendar and strategy, helps stakeholders implement it.
? Monitors JCPS social media messaging/comments and responds accordingly.
? Creates, writes, or edits articles, and other publications such as brochures for digital or print.
? Provides training, support and guidance to administrators, principals, and school webmasters on their websites and social media platforms.
? Composes, records, photographs, designs, edits and posts material for use across digital platforms; content gathered via avenues such as visits to schools, meetings, programs and special events.
? Ensures the district stakeholders follow relevant board policies related to online safety, websites, and social media.
