About the Position: This position for Scottsdale Water coordinates communication to a variety of media, print and internal and external sources on department calls, activities and events. Anticipated starting salary may be up to mid-point depending on candidate's experience and internal equity.Minimum QualificationsEducation and Experience:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications or a related field from an accredited educational institution.
  • Two years' experience in public affairs, public relations or related field, and experience in writing press releases, speeches, articles and television or event scripts.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
Licensing, Credentials and Other Requirements:
  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
Essential Functions Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:
  • Develops news releases; reviews or develops announcements or publicity materials utilized by divisions/departments for distribution to the public.
  • Communicates with assigned division/department personnel and other City employees; the general public; the community; civic organizations and business owners in order to disseminate accurate information and provide assistance.
  • Coordinates public meetings and other community events to provide information and receive public comments on city issues.
  • Serves as an information resource to the community.
  • Makes public presentations and assists department/division staff in developing presentations.
  • Responds to scene as necessary and coordinates with appropriate personnel on information to release to media, public and internal staff.
  • Assistsstaff in responding to media inquiries and if necessary, speaks on behalf of the department or division.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
  • Lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, telephone, copy and fax machine requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand and eye movement.
  • Travel to/from meetings and various City locations.
  • Based on assignment, may be on-call for emergencies.
