Salary: $63,823.33 Annually Location : Nashville, TN Job Type: Full-Time Civil Service Job Number: 25092E Department: Public Library Opening Date: 11/25/2024 Closing Date: 12/7/2024 11:59 PM Central Position Description This position performs professional-level work involved in disseminating information and/or planning the marketing and public relations activities of Nashville Public Library. Successful candidate will be a member of a small, fast-paced team, dedicated to promoting library card ownership, library use, along with programs and services throughout the Nashville Public Library System. ****Resume must be attached to the application in order to be considered**** A city with a great library is a great city, and that's very true for Nashville. Typical DutiesWRITER AND MARKETING SUPPORT:
  • Conduct interviews, check facts, do research, and perform other tasks needed to develop library news and information that is accurate, compelling, and meets quality and integrity standards for how it is collected, formatted, presented, and shared.
  • Write, copy, and assist with creating or collecting visuals and multimedia content to package with this news and information for use across library promotional channels - social media, email, print, public presentations, etc.
  • Provide media relations support: collect information, respond to requests for information, format information for distribution, media monitoring, build reports on library's news media coverage.
  • Respond as needed during crisis or urgent communications situations.
  • Participate in community outreach efforts and represent the library at public events, community meetings, etc.
  • Support the Communications Manager in writing informational points, speeches and remarks, etc.
  • Support the Communications Manager in research, administrative, and other tasks.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of experience disseminating information and/or planning public relations activities. *No Substitution Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply. Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government. Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience in the principles, methods and techniques of storytelling, including copywriting and copyediting
  • Expert-level knowledge of news media best practices and processes
  • Expert writing ability including knowledge of the newswriting style (Associated Press style)
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills
  • Familiarity with Middle Tennessee media market
  • Fluent bilingual language skills
