The New York State Department of Labor's Communications team is looking for a Public Information Specialist-1 with strong organizational skills, the ability to support multiple projects and has exceptional writing and proof-reading skills for our news and social media outlets. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: •Six years of experience in public/media relations, social media, digital communications. •Associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree in communications, English, Public Relations, social media, Digital Communications, or similar degree, substitutes for two, four, or five years.•Strong written and verbal communication skills. You must submit at least three writing samples that showcase your skills. (News releases, digital video scripts, etc. acceptable)PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS: •NYS government experience a plus.•Experience working with local and national media outlets.•Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize a busy workload to meet tight deadlines. •Proven attention to detail, while retaining the ability to see the bigger picture. •Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders.•Exceptional customer service skills. •Proven work experience developing and delivering informative, well-written messaging.•Excellent creative and institutional writing skills. Duties Description STANDARD DUTIES: •Under the supervision of Communications leadership, the Public Information Specialist-1 will work collaboratively and independently on multiple projects simultaneously, from inception to completion ensuring that they are delivered on-time, and to the satisfaction of our internal and external clients.•Generate and present clear ideas and concepts that meet assigned project objectives and comply with team standards.•Develop project schedules and timelines, ensuring that milestones are identified and met.•Update project status documents on a regular basis and communicate project progress to internal and external stakeholders.•Produce press releases, respond to media inquiries, and pitch stories to state and local media outlets. •Bring with you a can-do positive attitude (we are a team that has fun working hard).Additional Comments Candidates with no previous state service will begin at the starting rate of the salary range listed above.
