Job Overview

The Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce serves its 1,000+ business and nonprofit members and the broader Oakland community by working to foster equitable economic growth through advocacy, educational programming, and creating space for Oaklanders to connect. An ever-growing organization, the Chamber is seeking a motivated, flexible, team-player who is able to juggle and deliver multiple projects simultaneously. The Public Policy Manager is responsible for much of the Chamber's external facing work with community groups, government, and members. This role manages the Chamber's community organizing capabilities with our existing diverse members, new members, and other organizations and individuals to advocate for policies that support economic development and good government.

Responsibilities and Duties

Track and succinctly summarize proposed legislation on city council agendas, flagging issues and opportunities for members as they arise.

Advocate for Chamber policy positions through position letters, legislator meetings, and public testimony.

Research and brief members of Chamber committees on a diverse array of issues including land use, good government, and economic development.

Cultivate new and existing partnerships with East Bay organizations, leaders, government, and businesses to support the Chamber's agenda for economic growth.

Plan and execute events to educate Chamber members on relevant policy and economic issues including monthly Inside Oakland series.

Advise Chamber leadership on strategic partnerships, policy, and campaign strategy.

Lead community organizing strategies to support Chamber-backed policies and issues.

Work with the team to launch initiatives, events, and programs for members – pitching in where needed.

Staff monthly and quarterly committees for public policy, Economic Development and Land Use.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required.

4 years of experience in work related to public policy, advocacy, strategic partnerships, campaigns, local government, external affairs, community organizing, or similar fields.

Excellent written and oral communicator.

Team player with a good sense of humor and exceptional time-management.
