Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason thisposition exists is to perform the technical work needed to process calls foremergency and non-emergency assistance, and to dispatch fire and police respondersto those requests for services. The work responsibilities of this positioninclude answering emergency and administrative calls, providing pre-arrival andpost-dispatch instructions as warranted, and dispatching the most appropriateemergency response personnel using a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system and aland mobile radio network. Employees in this positionwill learn to dispatch radio systems for fire and police. Public Safety CommunicationsDispatchers are direct reports to the Public Safety Communications Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicantsmust have a high school diploma or GED. Must have six (6) months ofexperience as a 9-1-1 dispatcher orcommunications operator with a public safety organization using a computer-aideddispatch system.NOTE: Qualifying education, training, andexperience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities toperform the job will be considered

Special Requirements

Applicant must be at least 18years of age, must be able to type at least 32 wpm, and must sign a willingnessstatement. As a condition of continuedemployment, you must pass a criminal background check (to include criminal anddriving history reviews) and a drug test.You must be willing to respond to the Emergency Communications Center tomeet community service expectations, during emergencies, disasters, and othersignificant events, adhering to directives from organizational leadershipThe City of Montgomery's Emergency Communications Centeroperates around the clock, every day of the year. Successful candidates willneed to be available for shifts outside typical business hours, includingweekends and most holidays. However, employees are compensated accordingly fortheir flexibility and dedication.

Kind of Examination
