This position is a tentative At-Will appointment and subject to a probationary period of six (6) months from the date of hire. Upon successful completion of a probationary period, a non-management employee shall be granted regular status in the classification in which the probationary period is served. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Coordinates the organization, staffing, and operational activities for Public Safety Communications; ensures programs and functions are in compliance with State and Federal mandates.
- Coordinates shift coverage and workflow; assigns work activities and projects; monitors workflow; reviews and evaluates work products, methods, and procedures; meets with staff to identify and resolve problems.
- Provides assistance to Police Command staff; participates in a variety of committees; researches, collects data, and prepares a variety of statistical and written reports as required; prepares and presents staff reports and other correspondence as appropriate and necessary.
- Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned functions and
- operations; recommend and implement policies and procedures as they relate to Public Safety Communications.
- Participates in the selection of dispatch personnel; provides or coordinate staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies and identify training needs; recommends or implements discipline and termination procedures as appropriate.
- Serves as the designated System Security Officer (SSO) for Arizona Criminal Justice Information System (ACJIS); assume responsibility for mandated reports, validations, audits, and related matters
- Performs all duties and responsibilities of the Public Safety Dispatcher to include answering emergency, and non-emergency telephone calls, dispatching police, fire, and emergency medical services based on appropriate protocols.
- Coordinates dispatch activities with those of other divisions and outside agencies and organizations; serves as liaison to other local, regional, and State Public Safety Communication Organizations.
- Participates in the development and administration of assigned program budget; forecasts funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; assists with the purchasing of portable radios, headsets, and other equipment; monitors and approves expenditures; recommends adjustments as necessary.
- Performs related duties as assigned or required.

- Law enforcement, Fire and EMS communications procedures.
- CAD/RMS and related software systems, ACIC/NCIC file functions, and other communications equipment utilized in the communications center.

- Interacting tactfully and professionally with City staff, outside agencies, and the public.
- Preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence and other documents.
- Maintaining accurate records, logs, and technical documentation.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
Minimum Qualifications Associate degree or two (2) years of college level course work in criminal justice or related field AND three (3) years of progressively responsible dispatch experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Must possess a Nation Crime Information Center (NCIC) and System Security Officer (SSO) certification. Must be an Association of Public Safety Communication Officials (APCO) Public Safety Telecommunicator Certified Training Officer or obtain certification within (60) days of hire.
