Salary: $4,117.00 MonthlyLocation : Bexar County Sheriff's Office - 200 North Comal Street San Antonio, TXJob Type: Full-time RegularJob Number: 2024-00865Department: Bexar County Sheriff's OfficeDivision: Sheriff Support ServicesOpening Date: 01/03/2024Closing Date: ContinuousSummaryUnder general direction, Operates telecommunication equipment such as a 800MHz Trunked Radio System, VHF Conventional Radio System, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System, Criminal Integrated Justice System (CIJS), Records Management System (RMS), Computer Telephony 9-1-1 and Mapping System, hearing impaired teletype and digital logging recorder Duties and Responsibilities Answers emergency and non-emergency calls from the general public and routes calls to other public safety agency dispatchers as neededEnters call subject matter into computer and prioritizes calls for serviceAssigns call requests as a single service (law enforcement or fire/EMS) dispatcher over a two-way radio to law enforcement responders or fire/EMS responders in vicinity to investigate incident or provide assistanceResponds to requests for information regarding CAD incident numbers, case numbers, arrival times, citizen addresses and other Public Safety Communications informationResearches law enforcement databases to verify information on individuals, such as driver's license validity, existence of protective orders, missing person stolen/recovered vehicle, warrants, vehicle registration and criminal historyMaintains public safety responder location and en route status logsAssists training new employees in procedures for dispatching, radio communications, notification of proper personnel, operation of telecommunication equipment, documentation of calls and other related proceduresPerforms related duties as required Minimum Qualifications Graduation from High School or a General Education Development (GED) certificateSkill in operating telecommunication equipment; skill in determining type and seriousness of callsSkill to type 40 wpm with no more than 7 errors; Requires recent typing test administered by Workforce Solutions Alamo Career Centers (Please attach a copy of your typing results to your online application or fax them to (210) ###-#### by the closing date.)Ability to remain calm in emergency situations; ability to pay attention to detail, cooperate with others, maintain composure, control anger, and avoid aggressive behavior, even in very difficult situations; ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of individuals utilizing tact and diplomacy; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with high energy callers, other public safety agency dispatchers, co-workers, County employees and the general public Must have a TCOLE Telecommunicator License or successfully pass the TCOLE Telecommunicator Licensing Exam within one (1) year from employment dateMust pass a psychological and physical exam including a drug screeningMust possess a valid driver's licenseMust secure and maintain a favorable background investigation by the Bexar County Sheriff's OfficeMust obtain Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) Certification within one (1) year of employmentMust secure and maintain access to TLETSMay work more than 40 hours during the workweekMay be required to be on-call 24-hours a dayMust work weekends, holidays and perform shift workWorking Conditions and Physical Demands: Constantly working in indoor conditions; high call volume, fast paced and stressful call center environmentOccasionally moves items weighing up to 10-15 poundsOccasionally moves about the officeFrequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate informationConstantly operates a computer and other office productivity machineryPositions self to perform essential functionsMust be able to remain in a stationary position Supplemental InformationWorkstations with internet access are available, if needed, to view job postings and apply online at 211 S Flores, San Antonio, TX 78204, 8am - 5pm, Monday through Friday.
