Guided by the Rensselaer Plan 2024, Rensselaer seeks to transform the delivery of pedagogical innovations, and to be a transformative agent in the 21st century and beyond.Job Summary:The Public Safety Officer I is responsible for the detection and prevention of crime, for the protection of persons, property and the general maintenance of peace, order and security; duties include patrol, crowd control, traffic control and dispatching.Minimum Qualifications:Candidates will have, at least a some college credits after having completed high school or GED. College requirement not necessary for those with qualifying military serviceMust possess and maintain a valid US driver's licenseMust have the ability to obtain and maintain a NYS Security Guard LicenseCPR and AED certification must be completed within three months of hireAll Public Safety Officer I incumbents must successfully complete Rensselaer's Field Officer Training Program within four (4) months of hireMust be available for flexible shift schedulingNote: Five (5) years of safety, security, law enforcement experience or other related experience may be substituted for college creditsRelevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesDemonstrated ability to apply critical thinking skillsMust possess the ability to assess a situation and apply appropriate conflict resolution techniquesAbility to use crisis intervention techniquesAbility to use relevant personal and/or mobile computing technologyMust possess excellent verbal and written communication skillsRequires ability to handle multiple emergency situationsRequires excellent customer relations skills and the ability to deal effectively with a diverse population in an academic settingPreferred Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities• Knowledge of computerized emergency and data base systemsShiftPublic Safety: Various Shifts.
