Warren Wilson College is looking for a service-oriented individual with the right skills and aptitude for the Public Safety Officer I position. A successful candidate is a dedicated team player, who is able to collaborate effectively with various constituents, and possesses the ability to work with diverse populations and personalities in a college setting. Ideal candidates will possess previous experience in public safety, law enforcement or the military. The primary responsibilities of this role are to assist in providing a safe and secure environment for faculty, staff, students, and guests on the campus of Warren Wilson College. This position requires the availability to work a flexible, full-time schedule, including overnight shifts, to meet the needs of the department. The college will provide shift differential pay for selected shifts. This position has an immediate opening, and applications will be reviewed as they are received. Minimum Qualifications
* High school diploma or general education degree (GED.)
* Evidence of ethical behaviors and adhering to established procedures.
* Demonstrated ability to be cooperative, collaborative, and inclusive team player.
* Valid North Carolina Driver's license in good standing. Must have the ability to obtain campus licensing once hired.
* Certifications in CPR and First Aid. (Can be obtained after hiring).
Preferred Qualifications
* Associates degree from an accredited college/university.
* Prior work history of public safety, security, military, or law enforcement.
Key Responsibilities
* Inspect buildings and grounds to observe and secure facilities against fire and other situations of potential loss to Warren Wilson College.
* Admit and release authorized persons, remove unauthorized persons and provide access control for approved personnel.
* Respond, investigate, and document disturbances and/or incidents, take necessary and appropriate action to maintain order, safety and to protect property and those on campus grounds.
* Cooperate with campus staff and external law enforcement agencies while conducting investigations. Testify in court, if applicable or required.
* Provide escort services as requested for students and visitors to Warren Wilson College facilities and parking lots.
* Participate in campus wide events as directed.
* Abide, follow, and enforce Warren Wilson College policies, applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations.
* Enforce campus parking regulations by issuing tickets and controlling traffic as needed.
* Work external and/or internal events ensuring equipment, property, attendees remain safe while attending the event.
* Operate all Warren Wilson College vehicles including, but not limited to vans, golf carts and any other motorized vehicles safely.
* Author any/all relevant reports from incidents that occur on campus by utilizing campus computers and provided software.
* Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
* Lift up to 50 pounds.
* Standing or walking for prolonged periods, walking up and down inclines, climbing stairs, and occasionally running, stooping, lunging, reaching, crawling, or other physical activities required to respond to calls.
* Position works in many elements both indoor and outdoor.
* Flexible working hours that will vary work schedules.
