Examples of Duties Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time, Classified, IFPTE position, and hours of work and days are determined by the supervisor. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. This is a 40 hour workweek position.Salary - $42,824.17IFPTE Grade 13 - Step 1 Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions, including temperature extremes, during day and night shifts. Work is often performed in emergency and stressful situations. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk; hear; stand; walk; use hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.Job Summary: Under direction of a Ramapo College of NJ supervisor, during an assigned tour of duty, provides assistance and protection to persons and property in and about College owned and leased buildings, office grounds, and parking areas; maintains orderly conditions, and takes the measures required to assure observance of the law; does related work as required. This position is considered an essential employee under Title 4A of the State of New Jersey Administrative Code. Being an Essential employee requires the employee to report for duty under all conditions, weather or other.Duties:Officers conduct patrols on foot and vehicle throughout the entire campus or an assigned area of offices, buildings, and grounds including parking areas, and makes the required reports by radio, telephone, or otherwise. Officers are expected to be able to sit, stand, walk and climb stairs as part of the daily patrol responsibilityPrevents unauthorized persons from entering the grounds and buildings; checks automobiles and trucks entering and leaving the campus properties and makes a report of each College owned vehicle indicating mileage, destination, the time of entering and leaving the installation, the name of the person driving the car, and the license number.Takes action as required to prevent all criminal acts and violations of College policy, inclusive of and not limited to, fire, theft, vandalism, disorder, and/or damage or loss to state property and equipment.Conduct a Fire Watch when determined to be mandatory by State or College Fire Marshal code and standards.Opens and closes buildings, gates, doors, and windows, and raises and lowers flags.Turns off office fans, motors, lights, and air conditioning equipment at the end of the business day.Opens and locks offices daily and sees that rooms are properly ventilated; switches on lights, fans, motors, and air conditioners.Gives assistance when accidents or illness occur in emergencies; summons emergency medical services, fire department, and/or police as may be required.Periodically makes inspections of the assigned areas and sees that found property is properly logged into property logs, the property is secured and required reports filed with the date, time and location the property was found, along with a description and location of being secured.Provides directions to visitors, students, faculty and staff.Maintains order and decorum of the entire campus.Escorts or removes offenders from the premises, when so required, with minimum disturbance to office routine; assists the staff in the maintenance of order within the premises.Directs traffic in and around buildings and in parking areas; regulates and controls pedestrian and vehicular traffic at designated public intersections to assure safety, reasonably rapid movement, and a minimum of interference.Enforce violations of the College parking policies through issuance of summonses, inclusive of booting of vehicles when deemed necessary by College policy.Takes needed action as to suspicious persons and conditions, and reports significant actions, occurrences, and conditions on the grounds and in the buildings.Notes and reports conditions which constitute dangers and hazards, and takes the actions necessary to assure orderly and safe conditions; sees that established safety regulations are observed.Takes appropriate actions as to suspicious persons and conditions, and reports significant actions, occurrences, and conditions.Investigates complaints involving misconduct, suspicious behavior, illegal activities, and other matters within the province of police operations and prepares reports thereon.When complaints are made as to lack of order or nonobservance of prescribed procedures, makes investigations to determine the facts and sees that proper remedial actions are taken; notes and reports dangers and hazards.Prepares simple but clear, accurate, informative, and legible reports.Must be able to operate with competence, the Computer Aided Dispatch, CAD, system.Must be able with competence send emergency alert broadcast messages using Alert Me Now/Rave or the system selected by the College.Must have an ability to operate the video camera system.Must have an ability to communicate clearly with faculty, staff, students and visitors to the campus.Must be familiar with all areas of the campus alarm systems.Must successfully complete a Defensive Driver course offered by the College.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
