Public Safety Officer Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has an amazingopportunity for individuals excited and committed to lifelong learning as a PublicSafety Officer. OurPublic Safety Officers provide personal, equipment, and real property securityfor faculty, staff, students, and visitors on Institute property. As a PublicSafety Officer, you will provide escort services, and other basic publicassistance services as needed, and perform routine security and public safetypatrol duties on campus. You will remain alert to emergency situations andprovide a first-line response, emergency management, and/or referral ifrequired. Other duties as assigned to meet the Institute's business needs. Qualified candidates will hold an associate degree incriminology or related field plus a minimum of five years' experience insecurity, public safety, law enforcement, emergency services, or militaryexperience required. In lieu of a higher education degree, a high school diplomaand seven or more years' of experience in a public safety field will beaccepted. Higher-level degrees in relatable fields may be considered in lieu ofyears of experience. Successful completion of pre-employment screenings thatinclude a background check, motor vehicle report, and physical abilityassessment are required of the selected finalist(s). In addition to the aforementioned qualifications, preferredcandidates will demonstrate an ability to: successfully conduct securitypatrols without direct supervision; communicate effectively, both orally and inwriting; complete routine paperwork; understand and follow specificinstructions and procedures; react calmly and effectively in emergencysituations; understand, follow, and enforce safety codes, regulations, andprocedures; ability to detect problems and report information to appropriatepersonnel. Preferred candidates will also have strong interpersonal skills,flexibility, and customer service orientation; skill in performing buildingsecurity and lock procedures; knowledge of public security codes, policies, andregulations; skill in providing protection services to individuals on campus.
