Public Safety OfficerPublic Safety Officers on Hendrix College campus have a significant impact on the campus community. This position's duty is to ensure the safety of persons and property on the Hendrix campus and to help manage various emergency situations.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: - Patrol campus buildings and grounds to prevent or respond to conduct that is a violation of law and/or College expectations to include incidents of theft, vandalism, fire or fire hazards, disorderly conduct, parking violations, etc.
- Ensure buildings are locked and unlocked as appropriate.
- Inspect life safety equipment, which includes checking locks, lighting, fire extinguishers and alarms to confirm they are in working order.
- Report any public safety incidents and unusual or hazardous conditions on campus to appropriate officials (i.e., inoperative alarms, discharged or defective fire extinguishers, broken windows, etc.).
- Investigate complaints made by faculty, staff, or students on campus.
- Investigate traffic accidents on campus.
- Assist local law enforcement, fire, and other emergency personnel as needed.
- Foster lasting relationships and trust with students, staff, and faculty through open and effective communication.
- Provide public safety services such as parking and traffic direction, crowd control, and the like, for special events.
- Issue parking citations and report traffic violations. Assist police with investigations on campus.
- Provide visitors directions and general Hendrix College information.
- Complete all required paperwork on campus incidents and public safety activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Public Safety.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent plus experience in customer service. Military, security, or law enforcement experience is preferred but not essential. Knowledge of first aid techniques; CPR certification is very desirable. Experience working as a member of a team and building relationships with those you serve and support.
Required Skills: Familiarity with relevant laws; basic knowledge of fire prevention; valid driver's license; ability to deal effectively with a wide range of individuals, in some instances under stressful, dangerous and/or emergency conditions; ability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently; demonstrated integrity; must have the physical ability to perform all job duties.
