Posting DetailsPosition InformationRequisition Number AS770P Job Title Public Safety Officer - Part-time Variable Schedule Pay Rate $23.01 - $25.31 hourly Position Type Part-time Variable Schedule Position SummaryPosition Summary:This position carries out College Public Safety functions including protecting life and property, preserving the peace and order of the College community, and providing various services of response, aid, and customer service to all campus stakeholders. The College Public Safety Officer, PTVS, works effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community, follows best practices, makes responsible decisions in the best interest of the College, and provides on-call emergency services for the campus as described in the essential duties and responsibilities. This position will use varying styles and approaches that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multicultural workplace.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:The following are the functions essential to performing this job:1. Adhere to the standards outlined in the FCC College Security/Public Safety Standard Operating Procedures related to duties, responsibilities, and conduct.2. Serve as the single point of contact for campus incidents that occur during shift, until a higher ranking College authority assumes responsibility.3. Provide security functions as directed during College emergencies, crises, or continuity of operations.4. Utilize College Security/Public Safety systems (i.e., Galaxy access control, CCTV, FireWorks) to monitor and maintain a safe working and learning environment for all employees, students, and guests.5. Continuously inspect the College asset buildings and grounds for fire, safety hazards, maintenance problems, and areas where needed patrols are warranted; perform regular security rounds as scheduled or required.6. Respond as directed or in accordance with the College Emergency Management Plan to any emergency situation on College premises or as directed.7. Report all problems to the supervisor or on-call maintenance staff, and ensure problems are documented within the daily log.8. Open and secure all classrooms, offices, windows, and doors on the main campus daily or upon request.9. Provide customer service, directions, and information to College community stakeholders and guests, as an ambassador for the College.10. Respond to emergency situations on the main campus, and administer CPR, first aid, and AED when the situation requires.11. Assist any victim of any violation of policy, law, or safety procedure; and contact the proper authority or agency for assistance.12. Conduct investigations, collect statements, interview parties involved in an incident, prepare related reports, and testify in criminal or civil proceedings as required.13. Protect the confidentiality of case/investigation information and personally identifiable information acquired through performance of duty, to include department reports and related college records.14. Report to work or remain at work during unscheduled College closings, as directed.15. Monitor weather conditions and report conditions to the Chief of Operations, as required.16. Assist in scheduling exterior door access.17. Create student/employee ID cards upon request of supervisor and distribute/collect College keys as directed.18. Carry and utilize tools essential for the position, which may include handcuffs, baton, oleoresin capsicum spray, radio, and duty cell phone.19. Work, as assigned, for coverage of College holidays, closings, and breaks, as scheduled by the College Public Safety Supervisor.20. Rotate shifts and locations as determined by the Public Safety Supervisor.21. Perform other duties as assigned.Required Minimum Qualifications1. High school diploma2. Experience related to security/public safety, fire service, EMT, first responder, or law enforcement3. Valid Driver's license and ability to safely operate a motor vehicle4. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in seasonal weather conditions5. Ability to stand for extended periods of time, walk long distances, and traverse stairsDesired Qualifications1. Associates degree or equivalent military experience2. Previous experience in an educational environment3. Current First Aid, CPR/AED Certification, or ability to become First Aid CPR/AED certified at the next training session4. Proficiency and experience in a second language (Preferably, Spanish and/or American Sign Language)5. Experience using public security codes, policies, and regulations6. Experience using access control systems, CCTV, security department report writing/incident logging software, and building alarm systems7. Experience in performing building security and lock procedures8. Experience with first response practices, investigative practices, incident command and/or crisis response procedures, incident/accident or criminal interviews/ interrogations, parking enforcement, and public relations9. Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation10. Excellent communication skills11.
