Minimum Qualifications:

Job Summary:
To provide the skills necessary to enforce rules and regulations pertaining to the operation and parking of vehicles on campus and in the inspection and safeguarding of buildings and property.

Salary Range:
$31,440.00 - $40,000.00, Annually, based on experience
Job Duties:
* Responsible for enforcing the regulations pertaining to the parking of vehicles in university-controlled property; directing traffic; and patrolling University-controlled property for the purpose of safeguarding buildings and property under the control and jurisdiction of the U.T. System Administration or an institution of The University of Texas System.
* Must pass a drug screen, and thorough background investigation, and may be required to take a polygraph.
* Follows standard practices and procedures to patrol buildings and grounds.
* Directs flows of traffic
* Patrols buildings and grounds on foot or in vehicles to provide security and prevent crime
* Writes reports on incidents occurring on campus or the System Complex.
* Patrol buildings and grounds to check for fires, water leaks, potential security and safety hazards, and general building security.
* Patrols assigned areas for the safety of employees, patients, and visitors, and protects property from theft, vandalism, illegal entry, and other acts of crime.
* Examines doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure, checks for fire, water leaks, and other safety hazards
* Provides information to visitors as the location of parking facilities, buildings, and offices
* Examines credentials of persons desiring entrance to unauthorized areas.
* Assures that buildings are accessible during opening hours and secure when not in use.
* Respond to emergency calls and direct activities during adverse weather conditions.
* Adheres to internal controls established for the department.
* Performs related duties as required.

duties involve driving, walking, running, standing, stooping, climbing, crouching, pushing, jumping over, pulling, carrying, reaching above the head, lifting, lowering, hand-wrist and elbow motion, grasping, and holding.
Other:
Should have the physical and mental capabilities to properly carry out responsibilities and duties as Guard/Public Safety Officer of The University of Texas System Police. Must possess a valid driver's license and be eligible to drive a university-owned and/or leased motor vehicle. Must successfully pass a thorough background investigation. Must be able to provide credible testimony in a court of law.

Supervision:
Work is performed under the general supervision of the chain of command for the System Administration or an institution police department, typically that of a Senior Guard/Senior Public Safety Officer or a Sergeant, University Police. Supervision is usually in person or by radio. Work requires the ability to make frequent minor decisions and occasional decisions of some significance. Work is reviewed for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with departmental policy and procedure.
Work Schedule:
UTMB PD Public Safety Officers are employed by the UTMB PD Police Department.
UTMB PD Police Department is a 24/7 full-service Police Agency and provides 24/7 Police security services to UTMB-owned, rented, and leased property. Police staff is assigned to work varying shifts based on seniority to cover 24/7 Police service areas and shift periods.
Working conditions involve exposure to variable weather conditions and working on any one of three shifts with varying days off and on holidays. Work involves a degree of hazard.
Public Safety Officers must be willing to work assigned shifts, which may include dayshift, evening-shift, or overnight midnight shifts, and be willing to work in adverse weather conditions, which may include summer heat, winter cold, rain, and or hurricane situations.
