Location : Bourbonnais Job Type: Full-Time Staff Division: Operations Department: Department of Public Safety Opening Date: 11/11/2024 Position Summary Maintains security and safety of people and property in assigned area(s) on university campus facilities via foot and mobile patrol, enforcing university rules and regulations. 2nd Shift 2p-10p. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Patrols assigned areas checking for possible crime and/or safety hazards and suspicious activity or persons. Responds to alarms and dispatched calls; decides what actions to take based on situational training, facts known and position limitations. Responds to emergencies and incidents to provide assistance; provides first aid based on training until paramedics arrive. Writes clear incident reports detailing what took place and official actions taken. Services building openings and closings as per assignment. Patrols parking lots to ensure safety, security and parking compliance as per university policy. Issues tickets/citations for parking violations. Investigates and/or reports hazards, unusual or suspicious circumstances for correction or follow-up actions. Provides motor vehicle escorts as assigned. Checks doors and windows of buildings to ensure they are properly secured; documents matters that could compromise any areas of campus safety and/or security and submits information to supervisor. Observes activity and traffic in assigned areas to enforce university rules/regulations, alerts campus community members and visitors of infractions. Assists with crowd control, traffic control and surveillance at public events as assigned. Works with members of the department and university community to define and implement problem-solving techniques related to patrol operations. Assists with identification of problems related to campus crime trends and/or safety measures for improvement of campus safety and security efforts. Attends, assists with and/or instructs educational safety and security programs as requested. Maintains discipline and adherence to all department and university rules, regulations, orders, directives and policies. A lifestyle in agreement with the Attention to detail. Strong communication skills (written and oral). Knowledge of basic security processes and operational procedures. Ability to conclusively monitor audible and visual security alarms and systems. Motor vehicle operations (SOS background check required). Working knowledge of MS Office software package (Word, Excel). Working knowledge of information systems software. Must also possess ability to lift/move objects or persons, unaided, a minimum of 70 lbs. Maintain calm demeanor under stressful conditions. Physically capable of climbing stairs and perform foot patrol. Additional InformationEDUCATION A high school diploma is the lowest level of requirement. 1 year experience in safety, security or related field preferred; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. WORK ENVIRONMENT Employee needs to be able to work outside under all weather conditions. 12-month, non-exempt employee, completing shift work and alternate hours. Wage reflects that of an unsworn, unarmed security detail officer.
