Public Safety TeacherHyde, Tyrrell, Washington Career Technical Innovation CenterJob DescriptionTITLE: Teacher QUALIFICATIONS: Two years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's degree, four years with an Associate's degree, or six years with a high school diploma. Candidate must hold any of the following certification prior to hire/teaching: NC Department of Public Safety in C.E.R.T., or NC Office of Emergency Medical EMT Instructor, or Law Enforcement certification (current or lapsed) from state or federal law enforcement entity. RELATED DEGREES: Any area of public safety: fire, law, medical, emergency management, firefighter; EMT, paramedic, law enforcement officer, protective services, previous teaching experience in this content area. (Volunteer service is acceptable for fire and EMT. REPORTS TO: Principal/CTIC Program Coordinator JOB GOAL: To help students learn skills and knowledge that will contribute to their educational and social development in the area of Public Safety. ESSENTIAL TEACHING FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Follow all rules, policies and procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to school issues. Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students and is compatible with the school, district and state guidelines. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students. Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required. Counsel with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for students and evaluate their job performance. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence. Participate in the development and support of the broad school vision. Attend school staff meetings, serves on staff committees and carries out non-instructional duties as required or assigned. Attend annual Public Safety meetings with the state DPI Consultant. Work with School Administration, Guidance, and Career Development Coordinator to recruit students into the Public Safety/EMT Program. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required by the Principal. Cooperate with other CTE faculty in promoting activities of a SkillsUSA chapter or like CTSO group. Serve as an advisor for SkillsUSA or like group. Terms of Employment: Five-month employment (2 periods per day, per school year) Starting Salary and/or Grade: Salary based on state salary scale Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board, local and state policy on evaluation of teachers. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrate advanced aptitude in the field of emergency services. Demonstrate strong content knowledge. Possess requisite math, writing, reading and communication skills. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to communicate well with school personnel, students, and parents. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignment. Ability to maintain order and discipline in a classroom. Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students. Recruit, encourage, and guide students in the construction courses and industry. Comply with confidentiality requirements in local, state and federal policies and statutes. Physical ability (able to exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally) and dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job. Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and accomplish specific tasks as requested. Ability to manufacture good quality product at the set rate of output. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignment. Ability to correctly set up and run the product in the correct order. Ability to correctly follow and give instructions.
