Duties
* Answers 911 calls and performs caller interrogation to determine the chief complaint and the nature of the call.
* Determines the level and type of response necessary and initiates the dispatch for both emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
* Initiates immediate action in response to all alarms to include coordination with effected agencies and dispatching appropriate response.
* Refers non-emergent callers to appropriate civilian and governmental agencies.
* Maintains continuous telephone contact with the caller until responders arrive on scene (when appropriate).
* Maintains complete and accurate records, reports, and logs on all communication traffic, assigned vehicle movements, patient transport, personnel, and vehicle status in accordance with operational policies and procedures.

* Position is subject to shift work where the incumbent is required to work an alternate, rotating work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends and holidays).

* Incumbent must be a qualified typist (40 wpm).
* Incumbent must pass a pre-employment; fingerprint based criminal history investigation for any location that accesses Criminal Justice Information Systems.
* The incumbent is subject to initial and random urinalysis testing in accordance with agency guidelines.
* The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
* The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain certification in: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Emergency Medical Dispatch based on the program standards at the location assigned.
* Incumbent must complete the Department of Defense Telecommunicator I and II or equivalent based on the program standards at the location assigned.
* Incumbent must complete State National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification based on assigned location.
* Incumbent must complete the National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS 100,300, 700, 800, and 907 courses.
* Continuous current certification is a condition of employment.
* The incumbent is responsible for attaining continuing dispatch education (CDE) requirements through in-service training that is offered locally and pass in accordance with predetermined course requirements.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing work that includes: 1) Dispatch emergency personnel (police, fire, medical, hazmat, rescue, etc) as necessary; 2) Obtain pertinent information from callers to ascertain the nature of their emergency or request for assistance; 3) Provide clear and precise instructions to callers in high stress conditions; 4) Utilize dispatching and/or law enforcement communication system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade.level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
