* The duties described below are at the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence, and limited complexity.
* Responsible for the receipt and effective evaluation of 911 emergency calls.
* Identify the determinant and level of response and provides this and any additional information to the responding units.
* Transfer caller to proper agency as determined or dispatches a variety of emergency equipment to include police, fire, ambulance, Med-Evac, rescue or hazardous materials units.
* Provide emergency medical dispatching (EMD) assistance to callers with medical emergencies using the local authority's emergency medical dispatch system.
* Update information for medical, police and fire personnel en route to call.
* Provide assistance to medical, police and fire personnel by acting as liaison between department personnel and other agencies.

* Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
* The incumbent will be required to demonstrate reasonable proficiency at locally established training guidelines on the use of E911, CAD, Land Mobile Radio (LMR), and station alerting software and equipment.
* Position is subject to shift work where the incumbent is required to work an alternate, rotating work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends and holidays).
* Incumbent is required to work (mission essential) regardless of weather conditions or base closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time.
* Incumbent may be required to wear a uniform.
* Incumbent must pass a pre-employment; fingerprint based criminal history investigation for any location that accesses Criminal Justice Information Systems.
* The incumbent is subject to initial and random urinalysis testing in accordance with agency guidelines.
* The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
* The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain certification in: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
* Incumbent must complete the Department of Defense Telecommunicator I and II or equivalent based on the program standards at the location assigned.
* Incumbent must complete State National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification based on assigned location.
* Incumbent must complete the National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS 100,300, 700, 800, and 907 courses.
* Continuous current certification is a condition of employment. The incumbent is responsible for attaining continuing dispatch education (CDE) requirements through in-service training.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. This position may be filled at any grade level advertised. If selected at the developmental GS-05 or 06 grade level, you may be promoted to the next grade level non-competitively after completion of one year of specialized experience at the next grade level and all statutory and regulatory requirements have been met, performance is satisfactory and promotion is recommended by the supervisor. Promotion to the next higher grade is not guaranteed and is contingent upon the criteria outlined below.
Specialized Experience required GS 5 level: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) Operating radio communication equipment to dispatch services; and 2) Receiving incoming telephone or alarm systems calls. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university with studies in a field related to this position, such as Emergency Management or Crisis & Disaster Management.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Specialized Experience required for GS 6 level: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as the following: 1) Operating electronic computer-based systems for emergency (Police, Fire, and/or EMS) dispatching management; 2) Operating multiple equipment/systems (i.e., Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, alarm systems, dispatch recording devices, multi-channel radios) during emergency situations; and 3) Disseminating information from incoming callers during emergency situations This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05) or equivalent.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06) or equivalent.
