Duties will include direct supervision, preparing of employees' schedules, submission of oral, written and computer-generated reports. The Crew Leader will handle manual and camera-inspections of stormwater infrastructure as well as stormwater maintenance via the use of heavy equipment. An ability to drive heavy vehicle including sweepers and other heavy equipment.An employee in this class plans and oversees work performed in the field in a variety of public works activities. Work includes scheduling work each week and making sure all work is completed to standards. Work also involves operating a variety of hand and power tools and light, medium and heavy-duty equipment at a high skill level. Employees may be subject to on-call and callback work. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Works Superintendent and Director and is evaluated through observation and through successful completion of assigned projects. Essential Duties and Tasks
- Plans, organizes, coordinates and provides direct supervision of assigned public works tasks.
- Determines materials, supplies and equipment needed for each assignment.
- Participates in mowing, trimming, mulching, pruning, planting, fertilizing, irrigating, pest control and other landscape maintenance tasks.
- Coordinates and conducts asphalt and concrete repair to streets, sidewalks, curb and gutter and other street facilities; fabricates and erects street signs.
- Repairs, maintains and cleans storm sewers and catch basins.
- Coordinates and participates in collection of yard waste and leaf collection.
- Repairs, maintains and cleans storm sewer and catch basins.
- Coordinates training and safety meetings relevant to assigned tasks.
- Operates construction equipment such as dump trucks, loaders, tampers, trenchers, air compression driven equipment, and other related light, medium and heavy equipment; performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs to equipment.
- Oversees the lead Team responsible for Storm Debris, Snow and Ice Removal. Maintains logs of all equipment and man hours used.
- Participates in storm clean up, removal of debris, and repair of facilities.
- Assists other departments with various tasks.
- Maintains and assists with repairs of equipment and vehicles; performs preventive maintenance and makes repairs as needed.
- Maintains written and electronic records of work activities and completes periodic reports.
- Performs related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of public works and construction methods.
- Considerable knowledge of tools, materials and equipment used in public works construction and maintenance work.
- Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.
- Considerable knowledge of municipal maintenance and construction practices.
- Extensive knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances and regulations pertaining to operations of motorized equipment.
- Skill in the operation of hand and power tools and equipment.
- Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
- Ability to read and understand complex drawings and diagrams.
- Ability to plan work, set priorities, and supervise personnel.

Desirable Education and ExperienceHave a high school diploma or GED, a minimum of 8 years' experience equivalent to the position of Senior Public Works Specialist and a minimum of three years' experience supervising employees and/or projects; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.** Must hold a CDL at the time of hire (preferably a Class A)**Holding a CDL Class B is acceptable with expectation of receiving a Class A within 6 months of hire.The Town of Wendell is an equal opportunity employer.
