The purpose of this position is to provide dispatching support to the department. This position performs customer service duties for the department and dispatches requests for service to appropriate division and crew. Successful performance in this position facilitates department operations, and results in customer satisfaction. Job ResponsibilitiesMajor Duties
- Answers telephone calls and directs customers to appropriate personnel.
- Assist customers with questions concerning work performed by Public Works.
- Obtains customer information necessary to resolve customer inquiry.
- Answers customers inquiries concerning service provided and billing procedures.
- Updates and maintains files.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Guidelines include city and department policies and procedures, and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

Minimum QualificationsEducation/Experience Requirements
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Knowledge Requirements
- Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of city and department policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of correct grammar and usage.
- Skill in the operating computers and other standard office equipment.
- Skill in interpersonal relations.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
Work Environment/Physical Demands The work is typically performed in an office, while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
