Your role will be essential in ensuring our village remains a beautiful and functional place to live and work.Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform manual labor and maintenance of Village buildings, parks, grounds, streets, storm sewers, traffic signals, equipment, and other properties.
  • Operate various equipment including mowers, snow blowers, trucks, plows, hand tools, power tools, computers, and related equipment.
  • Uphold high standards of safety and efficiency in all tasks.
Working Hours:
  • December through April: 7 AM - 3 PM
  • April through December: 6 AM - 2 PM

Availability:
  • Be prepared to respond to emergencies and other circumstances at any time, including nights and extended hours. Overtime may be required.
Supervision:
  • Receive assignments from the Superintendent of Highways, Parks, Buildings, and Grounds, Foreman, or Crew Leader.
  • Follow standard procedures and ensure all work is inspected for safety and efficiency.
Compensation:
  • Competitive starting hourly rate.
  • Increase to $28.41 per hour after a 150-day probationary period.
  • Increase to $30.70 per hour after one year, plus any cost of living adjustments approved by the board for 2025.

  • Performs minor repairs and maintenance of buildings; heating, cooling, painting, electrical, plumbing, and rough carpentry;
  • Applies fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides;
  • Cuts Grass in Village Parks, medians, and right of ways;
  • Plants trees, shrubs, flowers and performs related landscape duties;
  • Operates chainsaw to remove trees and brush; prunes trees and shrubs;
  • Performs repairs to road surfaces and right of ways
  • Plows snow in dump truck with wing and plow, loader, and snow blower; salts Village streets, parking lots, and sidewalks. Shovels snow at Village Buildings as required;
  • Erects street signs in accordance with local, state, and federal requirements
  • Has a working knowledge of traffic signals and streetlight maintenance and repair or the ability to learn;
  • Operates heavy equipment such as backhoes, loaders, and skid loaders;
  • Performs crack filling duties, operates power tools, and jack hammer;
  • Fills out work sheets, and maintains maintenance records utilizing a computer;
  • Rough grades and lutes asphalt to finish grade
  • Performs masonry work in repairing streets, sidewalks, curbs, catch basins, and manholes
  • Performs Janitorial Duties; Vacuums, cleans restrooms, strips/wax floors, etc.
  • Picks up debris and trash in Village Parks and along Village right of ways
  • Works overtime as required
  • Other duties as assigned
Typical Qualifications
  • Knowledge of road, parks, grounds and building maintenance procedures;
  • Understanding and skill in operating equipment for required maintenance needs;
  • Experience with snow plowing and/or with operating other large machinery
  • Ability to repair equipment including repair to gasoline and diesel engines;
  • Ability to work with the public
  • Understanding of traffic signal and street lighting preferred
  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Experience in streets and public works construction and maintenance or similar field preferred, but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Thoroughness and dependability.
  • Ability to effectively meet and deal with the public.
  • Ability to complete the physical requirements of the position.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license issued by the State of Wisconsin.
  • Valid Wisconsin Commercial Driver's License or ability to obtain one within one year of hiring.
  • Ability to pass the Department of Transportation physical, drug screen and respiratory evaluation.
