General Summary & Essential Responsibilities
This is highly skilled and technical level trades work performing complex repairs and maintenance on Charlotte County bridges and street lighting systems. This position must demonstrate a high level of skill in the electrical trade.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
* May be responsible for installation, service, overhaul, and repair of all sizes of mechanical items to include pumps, motors, generators, bridge gates, bridge controls, as well as associated bridge fender and navigational lighting.
* Repair and replacement of streetlights and street light load centers.
* May assist traffic signal technicians.
* Occasionally serve as crew leader when needed.
* May act as lead worker, when appropriate, with a team of subordinates and/or peers.
* Provide exceptional customer assistance, problem-solving, and/or complaint resolution by all forms of communication.
* Participates in rotational on-call program as required.
* Performs general maintenance on equipment.
* Prepares routine reports and paperwork including trouble reports, and purchase requisitions.
* Operates vehicles and equipment such as bucket truck, crane truck, and forklift on a routine basis in the performance of assigned duties.
* Develops training aids and test equipment to assist with training new employees and troubleshooting problems.
* Other duties as assigned.
Min. Education, Licenses and Certifications
Education and Experience:
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Two (2) years of experience in motor control, electrical trade and/or a closely related field
* Or an equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience.
Licenses and/or Certificates:
* Within 60 days of position assignment:
* Possess & maintain a valid class B CDL with Air Brakes endorsement
* Within six (6) months of position assignment:
* Possession of IMOT and Level I Roadway Lighting IMSA certification
* Within one (1) year of position assignment:
* Must maintain an IMSA Level II Roadway Lighting Certification
* Preferred:
* Professional Electrical Journeyman's License
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Considerable knowledge of the principles of electronics and electricity as they apply to the traffic signal control field.
* Knowledge of the methods, practices, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of traffic signals, video detection systems, and related equipment, street lighting and school zone warning devices.
* Knowledge of the principles of electronics and electricity as they apply to the roadway lighting.
* Knowledge of the methods, practices, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment related to the construction, maintenance, and repair roadway lighting systems.
* Knowledge of departmental policies, plans, and procedures.
* Knowledge of office practices, plans, and procedures.
* Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other job-related computer programs and software applications.
* Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.
* Ability to read, comprehend and follow blueprints, plans and schematic diagrams of electrical, roadway and sketches of roadway lighting.
* Ability to operate and work from an aerial lift device at heights up to 55 feet.
* Ability to ascertain priorities and meet deadlines and objectives.
* Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
* Ability to perform manual labor in, around and above moving traffic, sometimes under unfavorable weather conditions.

* Ability to provide internal/external guidance and customer assistance via all forms of communication.
* Ability to make recommendations and to use resourcefulness and tact in solving new problems.

* Demonstrated skill in operating small machinery and hand tools.
* Must be aware of codes, rules, and regulations governing their jobs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Stooping, walking, sitting, pulling, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception. Dependent upon position assignment, may frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 60 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed indoors and outdoors and requires some exposure to environmental changes (e.g., outdoor weather and/or field conditions, warehouses, covered loading docks, garages, etc.) or irate customers, extreme noise, odors, heights and/or dust.
