May perform in the maintenance and repair of varying in scope from small building repairs, involving plumbing, masonry, and carpentry trades, to new construction of commercial buildings, typically under 5000 square feet. - Performs a variety of complex, entry level duties related to the daily maintenance, repair, construction and renovation of Town buildings and facilities
- Interprets construction drawings
- Estimates material quantities for projects
- Procuring material and supplies
- Operating equipment used in general carpentry, plumbing, painting, woodworking, framing, fabrication, sheet rocking, masonry, roofing, insulation, footings, foundations, installation of windows and doors and repair and replacement of locks
- Assists with snow removal
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of maintenance, repair and manual tasks of the area assigned
- General knowledge of the use of common hand and specialized power tools required in the work
- General knowledge of the safe use and operation and preventive maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment required in the work
- Skill in the use of equipment to which assigned
- Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods
- Ability to follow instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public
Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED certification required and moderate experience in public utilities and public works facilities maintenance, repair and construction, or equivalent combination of education and experienceSpecial Requirements
- May require possession of or ability to obtain specific certifications depending on area of assignment.
- Valid commercial driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia within 90 days of hire, as well as a satisfactory driving record
Physical Requirements This work requires:
- The frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, regular exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force

- Work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to the risk of electrical shock and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic)
